I think to be such an icon, yes they are overlooked in 2024. They will rise again though as tastes change. I am now old enough to want a two tone, and I never thought I would say that.
I wanted a palm dial one. But Iโd rate it as unavailable. Never been able to see one. But the grey market has plenty for 2.5 MSRP. This makes me think all Rolex watches are overrated. The palm dial Datejust is just a Datejust. Itโs nothing other than a different dial on a watch that is at least 15% overpriced compared to a comparable Omega, which I would say to be the Aqua Terra.

Yep, crazy. Actually owned the Aqua Terra 38mm and loved it. Something about Rolex I guess. I actually put my name up for a black dial, but had the option to remix underway.
I love it, probably one of my favorite Rolex designs. Maybe it's why I like this Seiko so much, there are definitely some similarities, with the bar markers and squared-off hands:
People may overlook the DJ as it is still difficult to get unless you go with a precious metal two-tone. I refuse to buy (on principle) from Grey Market dealers and pay over list. The blue dial (along with the mint and motif) may be overlooked because they are "unobtanium" They are fantastic watches but the Omega AT is readily available and has IMO a better movement and costs way less... just my dos centavos...
I don't think it's underrated. All the watch people I know for the most part appreciate the DJ and its place in the watch world. It's an icon, cyclops and all. Love mine.
I wear a 1960 Datejust ref 1601 as my daily. It just scratches an itch for me that no other watch has to this point, much to the exclusion of the rest of my collection.

I looked. I saw a Cyclops. I stopped looking.

Hope youโre right!

Not for everyone I guess๐
