So Would You Buy A DeLorean...Watch???

So the team over REC has crafted this very interesting Back To The Future watch design from reclaimed parts of a DeLorean.

I have a number of REC watches and they are always very cool, very well made and very fun...thinking of possibly getting this one to add to the collection.

What do you think? Good idea?

Here is the marketing blah-blah...

The SPX DeLorean is a limited edition timepiece made from John Z. DeLorean’s personal DMC-12 company car.

Gullwing doors, unique windows, stainless steel panels and hard edges – the distinctive characteristics of an automotive icon that stole the spotlight – The DeLorean DMC-12.

A ‘time machine’ to the ‘80s, this exclusive vehicle was manufactured by the DeLorean Motor Company (DMC) in Northern Ireland, but less than 9,000 cars were made before the company filed for bankruptcy.

The DMC-12 is the canvas to a blockbuster tale that encompassed stunning design, big-screen features, a tragic downfall and a lasting fanbase – a folklore that reached car afficionados universally.

As a car that took you ‘Back to the Future,’ we captured its timeless design, unique aesthetic and the controversial automotive narrative that surrounded it and packaged it into our limited-edition SPX DeLorean.

Limited to 456 pieces and encased within a steel framework, the SPX is a spotlight watch for a spotlight car, with subtle design references weaving throughout the timepiece to evoke the iconic feel of the DeLorean.

> Launching for pre-order Dec 1st 2022, delivery from Mar 2023
> Limited to 456 pieces, each individually numbered.
> Danish Design. Swiss Made.

So it will run slow, likely breakdown, perhaps get the attention of the airport K9 unit, but yet draw every single BTTF joke by every person who sees it?  :-)  Kidding of course, that is the real Delorean.

The first one is not ugly, but as a whole pretty gimmicky. Though lets be honest, these are some of the less offensive car collab watches out there. Outside of first watch, almost none have any visable links to DMC.

I actually like the more modern design and the case shape, and those other REC models you posted. They're different and I like it.

My problem is that I anthropomorphise EVERYTHING and I can't help but pity the lovely car that had to die to make these watches.

Thanks!

The cars and motorcycles were actually refurbished and the parts that were replaced were recycled into cool watches. It's all about sustainability.

So that can actually put a smile on your face...that's the whole premise with REC...taking recycled waste material from cool things and turning them into cool watches.

The TTT Great Escape used recycled material that was left over after the famous motorcycle Steve McQueen rode in the movie The Great Escape was fully restored. I mean how cool is that?

Similar story with the P-51 Green Hornet and the RNR Arkonik...just recycling waste material into cool stuff with original designs.

That makes me happy! I need to go investigate some REC models now 😁

I quite like the design they've come up with here and have signed up for the early release info, but still undecided if I will pull the trigger on it. Definitely has some cool history with this one

·

I have to confess...I purchased one 💸

·

@ChronoGuy has yours finally arrived?

@ChronoGuy has yours finally arrived?

Yes - here is the wrist shot...

It made its debut on WRUW when it arrived, but I know how hard it is to get through all the wrist shots every day. Time consuming, but fun.

Very pleased with the watch.

Great shot

Now finding your original post about REC. I could have done my research better, or at least earlier apparently👍
