Timex M79 Automatic (Red & Black) Review

As promised here is my review on the Timex M79.

Because this is my first automatic watch, I cannot compare the movement to any other watch, however it is a Miyota 8205, 21 Jewels with a 42 hour power reserve. The movement is surrounded by a stainless steel case and see through case back. Looking through the case back you can see some of the moving parts such as the pallet fork, escape wheel, and the balance wheel.

The case size of 40mm in diameter fits my 6.5” wrist perfectly. I was super happy with the way it was snug on my wrist and the 14.5mm case thickness seems just a wee little bit but once on the wrist you don’t tend to notice much or at least I didn’t.

The unidirectional bezel is a minute/half-minute and hasn’t stopped or jammed and I use it every day.

Ahhhh the bracelet. Every review I’ve seen on this watch is “it’s a hair puller” “those with hairy arms beware”. So either I don’t have very hairy arms or it’s just not a hair puller. It will catch a hair every now and then while putting on or removing the watch but it’s not pulled a single hair for me. I think this is because I wear it just a tad tight but not uncomfortable. But I may be the first to say, this watch bracelet isn’t a hair puller. And if I’m wrong I apologize, StrapHabit has a website and they are located on Amazon, search for their rice bead bracelet or their rubber straps if need be.

I’ve not really bashed it up against anything, I’ve worn solely this watch all week and I even wore it to Dollywood Theme Park and nothing happened to it. Maybe something would if you dropped it I’m not sure. I know the case is stainless steel and the crystal is acrylic. So I would recommend not dropping it, but there’s nothing polywatch can’t fix right??😀 UPDATE 1/3/24: I just noticed today there are tiny scratches, it's nothing major i just thought I should update you all!

Thank you if you read this far!! This has been my honest review on the Timex M79 Automatic (Red & Black)

  • Fits well on small wrists
  • Accurate movement
  • Nice retro design
  • Thickness of the case
  • People claim it’s a hair puller but idk 🤷‍♂️
  • You can hear the rotor spinning when you move, but I’ve never had an automatic before so I'm not sure how normal it is

I really enjoy this one too. I actually swapped straps with my Q Timex GMT and I love how both watches look now. I do love it on the original strap too. Thanks for the review. As another owner I concur with everything except I like the thinkness of this case. Gives the watch more presence.

I currently am wearing mine with the rubber strap from a Casio World Time ref. AE1200WH-1A. It works great but imo I love your bracelet better😄Welcome to WatchCrunch Jimmy!!

Happy Easter as well!
