Advice or just thoughts for first Rolex???

I am ready to dive into my first Rolex…struggling to decide between sub ref 14060 or explorer mark II ref 214270.

I have larger wrist so 36mm explorer looks odd….

One more data point, I wear my Tudor Pelagos 2 liner as my daily and love it 😀

difficult choice my friend. having had a Sub, id plump for the Explorer II. I think in the long run your appreciate the Ex 2 far more 👍

There is only one and only one Rolex that is worth any money in my opinion. The skydweller.

Go for the Explorer.  They are understated enough that only true watch nerds (or fellow Crunchers) would be able to notice it and you already have your Sub/Diver itch scratched with your Pelagos.  Black dial will most likely go with more and play into that understated vibe I mentioned previously, but the white dial variants are gorgeous.

Exp II is the direction I am leaning.

I do like to be incognito with the general public who are wearing Apple Watches…don‘t get me wrong I like tech and use it for working out myself, but my heart is with having mechanical/analogue timepiece on my wrist 😀

If yall come across a good one please let me know!

of the two choices the sub!.. I prefer the regular explorer or the green dial OP from the current rolex catalogue!

the 114270 Explorer (36mm) looks just right on my 7.5" wrist - it's a different vibe from a big case watch, but the watch, plus the lug-to-lug and the bracelet makes it look just right. Try one on if you hav'nt already - you'll be surprised at the presence.

On Explorer II's - the 16570 (previous model) wears large for it's size - the 214270 wears bigger - too big for me. Also, some prefer the red, less obtrusive GMT hand of the 16570 over the orange on the newer models. . The 16570 movement (3185) is accurate but sloppy to adjust. the 216570 movement is better, the current model (226570 with a 3285 inside) is outstanding.

If you are looking at a 14060 sub, have you thought about a 16600 Sea-Dweller? It will give you the presence as your Pelagos, the same classic looks as the 14060 and the heft of a steel diver. There's a date, but no cyclops, which is kinda nice. Also, a good 16600 will be more modern, has a banging movement (3135 baby!!) and will cost you roughly the same as a good 14060.

So - my 2 cents worth - with Explorers, get them on yoru wrist - they all have more presence than the dimesions would suggest, and some find the larger one's too large.

Have fun shopping!!

Good suggestions.

I tried on the new explorer 36mm at local AD and for me it just felt too small on my fat wrist.

I will take a look at sea-dweller. I do like the functionality of it vs subs.

I've owned both. I do sometimes miss my Explorer II Polar but I don't miss the bezel that's a scratch magnet. How about a Milgauss... I've always thought that's a good looking watch.

Not a bad idea. But already have an omega and seiko brands so I thought I’d try Rolex which would be my first.

Silly I know 😁

U just want a rolex or smth truly special and cool?

Consider bulgari octofinissimo or place a custom order with kudoke or sartory billiard . U will definitely not see those on anyone.

P.s. and u won't be robbed)

The Rolex Explorer II is underrated, and contains the same excellent movement as the Rolex GMT Master II, which is ridiculously overpriced.
