Thanks but No Thanks!

I had a great time visiting NYC and stumbled on a couple of stores saw a lot of Tissot watches had a lot of choices to pick. Saw and decided to pass then not too far I there was the Swatch store and I almost came close to buy another Swatch. Oh yeah they had all the Omegas swatches except the Neptune. None of those I was not interested but there was a thin metal class series of watches that got my attention. Even my wife wanted to buy me yanyone I wanted. Then little voice spoke to me straight up. Dude you got so many watches! Why another watch? One of my main goals was try to down size a bit or replace that’s it.

My main question is whats worst getting tempted in person being inside a watch store. or Seeing a bunch of watches online.

I'm 53 , been into watches most of my life and only ever been in watch shops a handful of times. Nearest shopping centre is 30 miles away .

I work in retail and so I've probably got a skewed perspective. Zero interest in the schmooze and bs.

I buy online and used only, don't see the value of in-store new purchases. 😉👍🏻

You are very brave as it could be a challenge to resist such and easy temptation. Nice shots 👍

That’s right for a second a thought came I could find that same watch on line cheaper instead of the store retail price.

Had time to kill on Sunday afternoon after a few errands downtown with my wife, she wanted to shop for a new trench or whatever clothing she might find of interest, I decided to check out a watch and jewelry store in the same shopping centre with nothing in mind but my credit card is valid. Small sign on the door announcing they are open for business, ring a sales agent will attend. I ring 3 times spotted by a few clerks in the boutique but I am ignored. I assume they have adopted a popular procedure where they allow only as many customers into the shop as clerks are available. I wait a few more minutes and move on, there are no shortage of shops very anxious for potential customers. I have also been thinking seriously of saving for a decent size condo when my wife and I will find an apartment more convenient than our ancient brownstone. The universe is talking, I should be listening, haha.

So did you get one in the end? Me personally I've always been tempted and bought online. Idk something about the irl experience is cool but never has made me go I wanna buy that rn

Nope they will get you on the taxes! Especially if you buying retail store or mall yeah you get the real deal but with a price tag for sure.

I guess the question is how many nice watches can we afford before it is enough? Haha. Have a great day. New York is a great place to shop for watches.

Would you have purchased Neptune if they had it?

·

I would like to see it and try it on maybe but no I pass. So many choices out there it was overwhelming I felt like a kid in the candy store. If I was by myself I be in there for hours!

·

That’s for sure and very tempting.

·

When I see a deal online on a watch I’ve been interested in, it can be very tempting. I’m less tempted by full retail in a store. Having said that, I’ve had watches stuck in my head after seeing them at a retailer that I eventually purchase.

I have been easily tempted and made many impulsive buys, have decided to stop the buying spree and work on reducing my collection to the watches that speak to me, the ones that get enough wrist time :) I just hope I'm able to stop myself the next time something interesting arises :D

I hear you I went on a shopping spree at first and found out the hard way. Gotten a lot of over sized watches at first and felt this hurt remorse and that bothered me. And at the same was lost in the watch rabbit hole.

I think its the online browsing (and Watch Crunch) that are culprits for me. I hardly go to a watch store unless I saw something online and I need to wear it to make a decision. Actually going to the store sometimes make it easier to prevent impulse buys.

I have been reviewing my collection this year and trying to sell of those which have been getting extremely low wrist time. Also gives me the chance to buy new watches of course :)

First time in that mall? They have a place downstairs, I wish I remembered the name, but it’s right next to the Lingines and Montblanc boutique, that I bought my Oris from when I returned home. The guys chatted with me like I was a friend and not a customer. He asked me what I was looking to spend and when he heard it, he brought out 3-4 watches and let me try them on, we talked about watches and he wasn’t the Macy’s watch counter associate. He has forgotten more than I know about watches. If NY is a vacation for you or something, I recommend checking out the boutiques. They have AP, GP, Richard Mille, Geand Seiko, G Shock, JLC, Luminox and so many more. They all let me look and ask questions (knowing goddamn well I wasn’t going to buy anything) and I had a lady at the JLC boutique gush over my Cocktail time. Idk if she was just being a salesperson, but I worked in sales a long time and she seemed genuine enough. The guy in the store also took 20% off because I came home from deployment.

Aside from the watches, though, Manhattan is amazing. I recommend checking out a place called Bare Burger. Fantastic burgers. Of course, pizza is a NYC staple. The 9/11 memorial is a sobering reality of something many forgot even happened and the Tribeca film festival is spectacular!
