Which dial type do you hate the most?

There are plenty of dial types and nobody is expected to like them all. The three type of dials that I don't like are the California, the Skeleton and the Roman. Of the three the California is probably the one I dislike the most. Of course, these are my personal dislikes and they are not going to be shared by everybody. So here is the deal: Please select one of the three that you dislike the most and add in the comments if you have another type of dial that you hate and revile.

I don't even like exhibition case backs. As a child I would see these Hot Wheels cars that had giant engines protruding through the hoods, and even as a child I found this distasteful and that mechanisms (aka guts) should not necessarily be on display.

So I hate skeletonized dials. However I must agree that Roman numerals are done very poorly, or at least not to my liking, way too often. Even Rolex misses the mark in my book.

I own at least one of all of these… and 2 in 1 (a skeleton watch with roman numerals) 😂

The ones with micro second markers on a dress dial :cringe:

The Roman numerals on the Rolex Date Just I used as an example are simply hideous.

“Hate” is a such an extreme word. If someone gifted me a skeletonized luxury watch would I take it? Yes. Would I spend my own money on one? Let’s say, not at this time. My taste might change but right now it’s not my cup of tea. They feel very compromised to me. Not only are they often difficult to read, but the hands and branding (to say nothing of possible subdials and dates) mean you often don’t get a clear view of the inner workings anyway. So for now, for me, it’s a polite “no thank you, but care to grab a beer and try to change my mind?” 😁

I really dislike skeleton dials the most because they severely lack that time-at-a-glance factor. Having to spend several seconds hunting for the hands vastly overrides the subjective beauty of the movement, IMHO 🥂
