Marathon Marine Chronometers USS Yorktown, Charleston SC

Spotted these Marathon chronometers on the USS Yorktown museum. Pretty cool to see the company’s military roots back in the 1930s/40s w/ a little bit of information on them as well!

Fascinating. Thanks for sharing.

And an opportune moment to remember that all the great American watch companies, like Hamilton and Elgin, which helped to win WW2 by devoting themselves to war production have long gone bust in their American forms.

While many Swiss watch Cos which merrily supplied the Nazis are still thriving.

Plus there's still been no proper reckoning for Swiss or Swedish businesses about their WW2-era activities unlike their German counterparts.

No justice in some things.

Nice. Visted the Yorktown about 7 or 8 years ago. Wasn't into watches at the time so don't recall the marine chronometers. Regardless, a great ship, great museum!
