Should I have bought this anomaly on the spot?

So I was randomly walking around Mayors with my daughter today continuing her early education in watches, and I spotted a Black Bay 54 in the Tudor display. This is the first I’ve seen in the store so I asked to try it on (and show my daughter hoping she was smitten, giving me an excuse for a purchase). As the sales rep took the watch out telling me it’s a BB58, I noticed that the second hand was a snowflake instead of a lollipop. I tried the watch on and confirmed that the 54 is definitely too small for my liking (and my little one wasn’t smitten), and as I handed the piece back I told the sales rep it was a 54 not a 58, and it looked like the factory made an error with the handset. She had no idea what I was talking about, so I pulled up the Tudor and Mayor’s websites and showed her the BB54 images. She was totally confused, but I pointed out how this particular 54 had a snowflake hand instead of the lollipop. I then left the store, only to wonder if I should’ve picked this up as sometimes factory error watches end up being worth a bunch.

Did I just screw up not getting this?

WTH? I would have bought that! But now I’m wondering if Tudor switched the second hand back to snowflake. If that’s a factory error, that could be flipped for double or triple the value.

If Tudor changed the second hand to a snowflake hand, everyone with the first version, which I have, has a rarer watch.

·

I noticed a discrepancy like that from a Tudor sold by an AD, I would bought it and protected all proof of authenticity with my life.

If my daughter was into the watch I likely would have and would’ve put it in the safety deposit box. I showed it to her and she just said “meh, I like that one with the green dial better”, referring to the US limited edition grand seiko release that just came into the store. Ha.

More I look at the photos it looks to me like a BB58 handset on a BB54. The minute hand extends beyond the outer minute track, which doesn’t happen on the pics of the 54 from Tudor. Also, the BB54 hour hand snowflake seems smaller.

FYI….I love Tudor, but they do have quality issues from time to time. More than they should for their price range.

·

I’d go back and pick that up.

·

Dudeeee go back and grab that watch

You’re right, the snowflake on the second hand also overlaps the hour markers. Doesn’t look right at all.

I have little experience at AD’s so…honest question; Is it possible someone purchased it, swapped the hands with their BB58 at home then retuned it to the AD?

·

Yea I would have had to walk out with that if I noticed it even if I thought it may be a little small. Gotta love how they like to hire some folks with zero Watch knowledge.

While I own two Tudors, I’ve never been at the AD. Salesmen (and a saleswoman) at Omega and Breitling were very knowledgeable. Supringly, they all knew who ArchieLuxury was 😂

It's value wouldn't be crazy. The story of factory error is all it is, and frankly a hand swap error isn't big enough to sway demand amongst collectors.

A dial printing error, that's another story.

I’m talking about Mayors specifically

Not likely. It was fresh from the back (still had caseback sticker on).

Ha. As mentioned this was at a Mayors. I’ve dealt with salespersons there before who were nice and very knowledgeable, and others who weren’t. Seems like some are more jewelry salespeople who also have to attend to the watch customers as well.

Same I have my own personal gripe with one Mayors. The one I actually do business with is great! I just know of one that likes to hire people that are friends or acquaintances with zero jewlery or watch knowledge. I’m personally in the luxury watch industry and I feel that it’s bad practice and provides an even worse experience.

Was that Mayors in Boca Raton by any chance?
