Homage or The Better Choice….

Homage doesn’t Carry as much weight as it used to. I’ve come to realize that everyone is building homages, even the main manufacturers build homage watches to the Rolex. Now we see in the microbrand world homages. We should just call them what they truly are, “The Better Choice” for the buyer.

By the way Dartmouth Brands owns Spinnaker couldn’t find out if the Rdunae is as well? If anyone knows please share with us, greatly appreciated.

Check these two microbrands Spinnaker Bradner / Rdunae R3 Seahorse. Take a look at the specs to the finite details of the bezel, the watch in it’s entirety. (pics provided)

Specs Comparison

Case 316l (both)

Lug/Lug 50m (both)

Lug Width 20 (both)

Case Thickness: Spinnaker 15mm / Rdunae 14.5mm

3D Lume (both)

Saphire Crystal (both)

NH35 Seiko (both)

Screw Down Crown (both)

Water Resistance - Spinnaker 180 -Rdunae 200m

Case size: Spinnaker 42mm / Rdunae 43mm

Cost: Spinnaker $285 to $370 / Rdunae $149 to $200+

It’s a great time to be a watch buyer! The decision is truly ours…

Just a brief note. I recently bought the Spinnaker Bradner, it’s one of my favorite watches to wear. It is a bit bigger than the Rdunae Seahorse and comes with a caseback exhibition window that the Rdunae doesn’t have. Wish I had known about the Rdunae, love to have compared that’s all.

You’ve gotta love the options out there!

Also Dan Henry has a nice diver for 290.00

Also Ventus Owned by Zelos ( I think) has some solid choices

I got the Emerald green Bradner and agree completely about homages. One of Seikos most popular models last year, the Speedtimer that I also got, is so like the Rolex Daytona it’s been nicknamed the Seitona.

Curious as to what your next watch is going to be?

For the longest time I’ve wanted the Tissot Gentleman’s Powermatic 80 or Longines Conquest. As for a diver / field I’ve had my eye on the Serica 5303. I just purchased a watch out of England Cestrian Master Series. It’s close to the Tissot but really all the Tissot is, a homage to the Rolex explorer. I found a homage to the Serica, the Ipose, this one I ordered with the Sellita Sw200 movement for 1/4 the cost of the Serica. I couldn’t find a selita movement at a reasonable price range and was one of the reasons I went with the Serica homage at $320.

I’ve hopefully got the Seiko Baby Alpinist and a Seiko Prospex Diver on the way soon. I also pre-ordered a Borealis Seastorm mk2 another watch highly influenced by Rolex.

Those Seiko Prospex Alpinist are excellent, but it’s that Borealis that everyone is waiting on with great anticipation. Love that diver!

Yeah I know Borealis have been getting a bad rep recently but I love my Sintra and am really looking forward to getting the Seastorm.

I have never been that guy that gets the Longines or the expensive divers like the Tudor Black Bay, not my style. I am eyeing just on personal appeal the Orient Lomasu automatic maroon

Spinnaker makes a nice solid watch. I had two, sold one and replaced it with a Christopher Ward. Have to say, there is a difference. If it’s worth the price delta that’s up to the buyer but there is a noticeable difference. Just like my Speedy has over the CW. Every step has a noticeably different feel.
