Field Day

Twas the night after Christmas, and in my warm house, not a creature was stirring, except for the me scrolling, on eBay….

I came across this Hamilton Khaki Field with a bid of $225. Naturally, I looked into it seeing as how I have wanted this watch for some time. The seller posted this in the description:

The watch works when I wear it but after I stopped wearing it it stopped working, it holds the time well if you wear it everyday other than that it stops and you have to adjust, so I’m selling for parts or not working. The winder seems to be broken but the watch works when you have it on your wrist.

My first instinct was “this guy has no idea what an automatic watch is.”

So I bid. And I won. Final price, $325. A steal for this particular watch. After I purchased, I immediately thought, what if he’s not a moron? What if there is something wrong? And so I have been waiting in anticipation until today.

After unboxing my new time piece, I quickly realized that maybe he’s not the man I thought he was. I gave the crown a quick spin, and to my surprise, the watch started vibrating like an Oral B electric toothbrush. I flipped it over to see what was going on, and as I turned the crown again, the rotor started to spin like spinners on an Escalade.

Now, you might be thinking “this is what you get” or “watch karma” etc etc etc. You’re probably 100% right. BUT to get this serviced would still be cheaper than buying a brand new one.

Either way, I learned something. Don’t judge a seller by their description, and quit doom scrolling on eBay buying things you should just wait to pay full price for.

Sometimes you get lucky and sometimes it bites you in the ass😂

It’s a great watch. Hope the repair is cheap and quick.

Astonishing that a potentially broken KFA would sell for that high a price. Honestly, that’s what I feel that it should be selling for new. I have one and have come around to liking it but, for what you get, it’s overpriced at retail.

You and me both!

Honestly though, the amount of reviews I see online from people stating "it stops working every few days/ after not wearing it a bit", is very high. I would have thought the same thing by that description alone. Did you manage to get it looked at already?
