Question for Administrator

It seems like some of the people on this site are collectors with no financial interest in the outcome of their comments. Other people seem to be salespeople with financial interests. As was noted in some posts about YouTubers financial interests influence bias. Is there a way to tag people with financial interests so we can tell the difference?

I would be interested to know who you believe has a financial interest in posting here. That is not my perception. I have seen folks try to sell things here from time to time but they usually fade away fairly quickly, usually without leaving a ripple in the pond.

It's pretty obvious who's here to promote/sell.

I don’t know for sure. That’s the point. I did notice that a couple new members introduced themselves as a marketing person. I noticed them make a subsequent post without making such a disclosure so if someone didn’t see the earlier post and remember the name they wouldn’t know.

If it helps when I post about a watch, good or bad, I always state “I have no horse in this race” because I don’t, but people will try and game the system that’s life today.

I am very appreciative for people with experience who share their unbiased opinions. That's what I try to do. I also understand that people have jobs and being a promoter of products is an important job and I want to hear that perspective as well. I just want to know which side of that fence people are on. It's not easy to make purchase decisions. Most of us are interested in watches that are not easy to see and learn about. Informal networks like WC is a great way for people to learn about watches. I also recognize that there is an expense to running a platform like WC. Since I didn't pay anything to belong I assume that I am in a sense the product. That's fine and I accept it with many internet platforms, whether they are transparent or not.

Yes, research is important but often hard to do. Networks like this where enthusiasts can share opinions can be so valuable. I initiated this topic with hope of improving the exchange of information. It seems to be going over like a loud fart at a symphony concert.

I absolutely have a price. Please contact me directly if you would like me to shill for your product!

Completely off topic, but have I told you all about these new watch cleaning cloths? They are in a word - magical.

That is one of the all time great moments in any action movie! I have the quote in my notes along with other memorable quotes from literature, politics etcetera.

I was once blown away by a watch strap, so enthused about it, I took to WC to praise the brand. A few people complained that they thought I was in some way affiliated.

Ever since that experience, I now tend to focus on just crap talking Omega speedmasters.

(It would be pretty hard to identify commercial entities unless they wanted to highlight it themselves.)
