Inspired by this community. Bought this yesterday.

This is only my third day being part of this community, and it’s been a blast.

I was surprised and excited to see such a wide, diverse range of watches and sharing. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I assumed it would be limited to discussions around high end, hard to acquire watches, and the associated narrative around that.

I was happy to see that it is that, and so much more.

Also surprised to learn there is just as much excitement around daily wear watches, as there is around high end time pieces.

I was especially inspired to see such a huge range of Seiko ownership and pride. That inspired me to relight my Seiko mojo and purchase this orange Seiko GMT that I had been looking at for some time now.

I have so many fond memories of this brand, including my cousins and I wearing some of their classic divers in 1982, while we went for our scuba diving certification.

In a high school skimming pool.

Not exactly deep sea diving, but we were in Chicago for crying out loud.

But man did we look cool…

Lastly, I was excited to experience and learn this community is a collection of passionate, watch-educated people, who are willing to give advice, and share about the watches they love and own.

The accompanying stories, and the personal sharing, make it all that much more special. 👍🏼👍🏼

Welcome to WC, and congrats on your new watch! I'm glad you're enjoying what you're finding here.

·

Hello and welcome, John! Orange is a great color.

·

Thank you! And love that profile picture. Apocalypse now, correct?

·

Welcome! Great choice!

·

Thank you. I am definitely loving this community!

·

Thanks Brian!

I love your profile. I’m a Chicagoan, but Boston is one of my markets, so I travel there monthly. I have a team there, and I have learned to quote Belichick on a regular basis. More tongue in cheek of course, but I love to pull out the “just do your damn job!” Line, when the team needs a pick me up. Works every time of course.

I used to hate flying there as I would continually hear about all of the championships, because let’s face it, you guys sort of ran the table for many years. Hockey, basketball, baseball, and of course football. If the Cubs hadn’t won the World Series in 2016, I don’t think I couldve continue my trips there!

·

Welcome to WC. I rocked the SSK GMT Blueberry today and yeah, it’s pretty great.

·

Thank you! And love the blueberry as well. just the right amount of elegance and sport

Also a beauty. You only live once!

Hey! I got the blue one but I almost got the orange.

I've heard from a couple of other Crunchers that shared their blue one's. Beautiful!

Looks great on you!

Thank you kindly.

·

Congrats! Great choice...very cool watch.

And it is the year of the GMT, so you are au courant.

·
Bluecatsup

Right! No idea of that until these past 48 hours.

You've made a good choice. I have a SSK003. Obviously not as adventurous as you 🤣

·

Nice GMT, was looking at that model today actually...👌👌

complication

I do have a Turtle as it so happens, see: https://www.watchcrunch.com/complication/posts/green-seiko-turtle-19613 and it's actually my main Seiko diver at present. I also had a Samurai until last year, but I never got along with all its brutal angles. I like the Turtles (and there are now mini Turtles too), because they have the cushion case vibe that is familiar to anyone wearing a Seiko diver in the late 70s/80s. I like that look, and it's also very comfortable. If I was to look at another Seiko diver at present it would probably be a 62MAS style watch, taking the vibe back to the mid 1960s. But I'm in no hurry with that - they are $$$.

Definitively try a Turtle on they are very comfortable…just like Complication the Samurai ended up not working for me…sold it for a Citizen Promaster…another one to try

·

Thank you! But that Blue is gorgeous.

Just sat down, and will check it out. That's a beauty.

I am familiar with the Promaster. Bad ass for sure, and love that crown-at-4:00 look.

·

And also saw you have a Steinhart. Looking good! I have the Ocean One vintage Red, and became a big fan.

Thank you!

GREAT collection.

What do you think of Bell and Ross? I am just getting interested in them, and looking into them, and hunting for some bargains there. (no luck so far :- 0)

Ah, Bell & Ross. Love the brand, especially their Instrument line, but for various reasons, mainly fit, I never bought one till this year. The straps on the instrument line are too small for my wrist, always want a BR-93 but then the BR-05 came out and on a bracelet it fit. Then they put a Kenisi movement in one, the BR-X5, and I had to have one. I found the light blue version which absolutely gorgeous so bought it. I did a review a few months back, btw.

What are the draw backs to Bell & Ross? One is cost. Second is they do not seem to hold value but outside of Rolex, AP, PP do?

If interested, you will want to check out Chrono24 for previously owned B&R.

Ok, great to know.

And does explain why I don’t see more of them in the wild.

I’ll have to check out the BR-05, ad I am loving Blue these days.

I have definitely drooled after the BR93.

Thanks for the share👍🏼

Hello BlueC, and welcome. Every time I see "bought this new watch" I'm excited to see what it is. I was so glad to see that your new watch was this Seiko. I don't have this particular watch but I have the non-GMT model SRPD59. I have 12 other Seikos besides this one. At $180 it is my most expensive watch.

You probably already know this, but depending on how you tilt your arm, you can get a really clear orange matte dial finish, or a slight shimmering sunburst look. I also didn't experience much difficulty sizing the bracelet (sometimes I do).

You'll really enjoy the look of your watch, especially if you're a Seiko guy. Again, welcome.

·

Thank you! I did discover that about a week after I had it, under the very circumstances you were calling out and now I do it anytime the light is right. It is absolutely gorgeous, and for a watch of this price point, the legibility and color of the dial is stunning!
