Let’s talk about wall clocks

this is a slight departure from the usual discussion about watches. i want to ask about wall clocks.

if you’re a follower of @AdrianBarker, you might have seen the studio set for his podcast, About Effing Time, with Andrew McUtchen and George Bamford. on the back wall of the studio are a bunch of large wall clocks from various watch brands. they all seem really high quality and have smooth sweeping seconds.

anyone know where one can get these? are they just knockoff items, or do the brands actually make and sell these huge wall clocks? doing a quick search for “rolex wall clock” turns up a lot of options, but they just seem like knockoffs - which i’m fine with. but just wanted to know if there are any major brands out there offering wall clocks like these as “official” products.

come to think of it, i don’t even have any wall clocks in my house because there are digital clocks on everything - the microwave, the stove, etc. who even has wall clocks nowadays?? never mind - i think i just talked myself out of needing one.

but the wall clocks on the set of About Effing Time are still very cool. and would love to learn about their origins.

It's my understanding that most official Rolex display items are made by Roldeco, but I think that the clocks may actually be made by Inducta. Authentic Rolex advertising clocks are going to be considerably more expensive than the unlicensed $200 versions that are readily available, and are probably going to be difficult to find. A quick eBay search shows 2 Inducta Rolex clocks available, both in the 5 figure price range. OUCH.

I think it would be pretty cool to have an official clock, but considering the hefty price tag, I'll be content with the official Rolex Roldeco display that I have outside my home office. These type of displays can be found on eBay, but prices seem to vary quite considerably. I paid $500 for this one back in 2020.

Mathey-Tissot make some wall clocks. I’ve got one with a sweeping seconds hand. You can buy them here or on Jomashop.

Otherwise the big ones you see around are normally non-offical shall we say. Still look cool, just not a factory item.

Some companies/brands make their own, usually for retail outlets etc. Others are just copies that are

sort of cool. My Oris, Raymond Weil, Mondaine and easier obtainable ones like Seiko and Citizen are real but many are copies or novelty clocks
