NWA - High Horologists Keep Scrolling!

My dad only ever wore one watch when I was a kid. All of my memories of Dad - laps at the track, timing soccer games, in the pulpit on Sundays, traveling to see my grandparents - it was always a Timex Ironman on his wrist. I don’t like the fancy new ones. I like the blocky, ugly one that my Dad wore for most of 25 years. I’m sure I’m biased, but I love it. It’s comfortable. It’s capable of taking a lickin’. It’s affordable. And now I have one!

When I first got into this little hobby, I was immediately drawn to several different watches, but there was only one that I knew I had to have. If I had to choose between all the lovely trinkets that could be had on the wrist, it might just be this one. If it’s good enough for Jocko Willink, Andy Reid and my Dad to wear 24/7, maybe it can bring out the best in me too.

Full disclosure, my dad pretty much only wears a smartwatch now, but I just can’t go there. Too many distractions for this ADHD kid 😄But still! This watch makes me feel connected to his legacy of spending time engaged my life, my siblings lives, and now my kids’ lives.

Now if you’ve read this long, I’ll assume you’re interested in my more analytical (though admittedly amateur) thoughts about this watch.

A couple functional highlights:

  • 3 Time Zones

  • 3 alarms

  • 30 lap Chronograph

  • Countdown Timer

  • The classic Timex Indiglo!

More subjectively, I never understood the G-Shock hype on here. Seems like most crunchers have one or two (or 1-2 dozen!) but in terms a rugged durability and functionality of a digital quartz beater, you can’t beat Ironman!

Feel free to roast me taste in the comments and/or send me a few free G-shocks to prove me wrong 😂

PS, now that I’ve gotten this one, I’ve got my eye on some other (arguably more classy) pieces:

Oris Big Crown Pointer Date

Hamilton Khaki Field

Seiko SRPH31

Tissot PRX

Are all on the table.

We’ll see where I end up!

I'm not going to roast you ( even though you are wrong 🤣). Each to their own..that's what makes watch collecting great. I'm a huge g shock fan an even though some are just plain ugly and so huge they make no sense. But that's why I like them. They are not perfect, hard to read the time on some, but for me they just float my boat. 👍

I’m sure i would enjoy them if I got one. They’re pretty cool! I’m just so biased toward this watch that I couldn’t hop all the way on the G-Shock hype train.

Cheers!

Seeing his Insta page full of this watch gets me fired up every time!

Sweet! I have owned a similar Timex before. It’s a great beater/daily. Does everything you need for a watch and more. The buttons were all very easy to use, even with the watch on wrist and I especially loved the large central start/split button for timing.

As with all/many plastic watches in the tropics, the rubberised bits of the watch started getting sticky and fall apart when I put it aside for a couple of years.

Enjoy it!

All the best in your watch collecting journey!
