Explorer, JLC or Parmigiani

I've been "struggling" with the idea of picking up a JLC MC Calendar, Ultra-thin Moon or a Parmigiani 1950 lune, but I don't want my collection to grow, so I'm considering letting go of my Explorer (124270). Would really like to get your opinions:

Keep the Explorer or go for the JLC/Parmigiani?

Well the JLC and Parmigiani are both full on dress watches, so replacing the explorer with either of them would be a huge change. If you’re often in need of a dress watch then I would suggest to get the JLC. But if sporty is more your style, then definitely keep the Explorer😊

The problem is I don't need either. I've got a few sporty and a few dress and some affordable all arounders, "...ooohhhh wory, wory, wory"🤣

I love the Explorer. It’s beautiful. But, I would still go for either JLC or Parmigiani. Because I can enjoy both the dial and the exhibition caseback for either watches where Explorer is solid caseback. But it’s subjective based on individual preference.

I’d keep the Explorer but that’s just me.

Sell the explorer to some schmuck that is willing to pay way too much for it.  Get the JLC.

To me the Explorer is a forever keep, but I don't mind having a great watch I don't wear much.  I like to just have it there to look at and wear when the mood strikes.  Sometimes, to me, ownership can be as important as frequently wearing a watch.

But as always, do what makes sense to you.

That said, the Explorer isn't really my cup of tea... It's a luxury watch LARPing as tool watch. The JLC isn't pretending to be anything but what it is.

I’m inclined to keep the Explorer at least for now but I can’t stop thinking about the possibility of getting one of the others.

Such amazing pieces. I love that microrotor movement on the parmigiani tonda.

Yeah, that is special. But, if there is a third option, I would save enough dough to keep all 3 🤣

If you got the Explorer at retail and are having this internal struggle, sell it, fund a JLC, and then get another Explorer later when you realize you miss it, which you will.

If you paid over retail for the Explorer 124270, you already made your bed.

Retail, always! love the Explorer. I think it was worth every penny but wouldn’t pay a penny over retail.

The collection is just getting too big… just can’t justify it. I feel I don’t wear each piece enough as it is.

I would echo the comments to sell the explorer to someone willing to overpay for it and get the JLC 😂 I parted with my 39mm Explorer Mark 1 a few years back.  I miss it sometimes, but it never did anything for me emotionally.  Was never truly excited about it (or any Rolex).  Too bland IMHO.
