A really good friend of mine launched his watch brand today on kickstarter. It’s a pilot watch called Atmoss watches and it’s pretty great bang for your buck.
Ahh man, that is a beautiful watch. I was going to order one then I found out it is a tad big for my wrist. I like the clean and tool watch look essence. It looks like a tank and will handle any abuse. I know they will do well.
I'm no trademark lawyer, but I when I worked with one, a key consideration was whether brands of similar trademarks worked in domains of similar nature. For example, a new cabornated beverage manufacturer called Koka-Kola, Koke or any other derivative would soon run into problems.
Now even though one is a product name and one is a manufacturer's name, both work in the domain of jewellery and watches. Of course, Richemont will not care if the brand does not get up, but if it starts gaining traction, then I'd expect it will land on their radar of their trademark lawyers.
If you’d have told me a year ago there would be a thread somewhere talking about our watches in same sentence as JLC I’d have laughed it off, albeit for different reasons I guess 😂. Anyhow, to answer the name question, until recently I wasn’t actually aware of the JLC Atmos, when a good friend who’s a watchmaker made mention of it (probably could have told me that sooner George).
But in all seriousness, for me the name actually came about as a term used in watchmaking that you all probably know in the waterproof rating (atm) and as a pilot, it’s a term that ties in with flying - you use the ambient air pressure to set your altimiter in the aircraft. So, basically, came from the term atmosphere which I’m sure JLC’s click does too. To be completely honest, the extra “s” came in as it’s very hard to get the name “Atmos” as I found out there was a lot of other “Atmos” products and brands out there. I had considered “AtmosSphere” but it just felt like an old MySpace handle, so decided to keep the second “s”
Sorry for the long winded spiel, but I figured it might help clarify where the name came from.
Please by all means if anyone has any questions about the watch, ask away!
Pretty clean. I’ll take a closer look.

Time + Tide just posted an article on them as well 🙂
Local lad, I like it!

What size wrist are you? I have a pretty small wrist and it fits well! Wears a bit smaller that the standard 41
If this gets going, am I the only one that sees a Richemont cease and desist letter in the future?

Granted, one's a watch, the others a clock, but they're both time-keeping devices. Might be a bit too close for comfort.

Interesting thought. I wonder if it was considered. This is Atmoss with an extra S, not sure if that counts for much.
