Double fatality

It’s been a tough week with 2 deaths in my collection. It started with my U-Boat Capsoil Doppiotempo deciding it would rather be at rest than continue to keep time. I initially thought I had a dud battery so swapped it out for a newbie, but not even the power of a brand new battery would breath life back into her again. Back to the factory in Italy it shall be then.

Then my new Squale 60 Atmos decided it liked the idea of resting in peace too and quickly followed suit.

So after 25 odd years of collecting I’ve had my first watch deaths and both in the space of 5 days. 1 Quartz and 1 automatic in the same week. What’s the chances of that!

I guess it was bound to happen eventually, so now the fun and games begins with warranty returns and all the fun that that entails.

The only good news is that my AD for the Squale has pronounced it D.O.A and are arranging to swap it straight out. As for the U-Boat, it will probably be months before I see that again. The joys of having an oil filled watch mean it can only be worked on in the factory, so a to 🇮🇹 and then 🛩 back to 🇦🇺 will be involved. If only I could go with it and keep it company.

😂 Well it coincided with the start of my divorce proceedings so I think I was hexed

So nice of Squale to help out with the replacement. As for the U-Boat, it looks like such a novel idea, you would think the oil will keep it perpetually lubed and practically service-free. How long have you owned each watch before they stopped?

I’ve had the Squale for less than 2 weeks and the U-boat for 3mths, so both are recent additions.

Maybe she got into the watches and removed the teeth on the gears?

Holy smokes — that is some bad luck! I just had a watch movement go south in a new watch of mine — the first problem in over 30 years. I guess it’s not about a matter of if…but when.

Yeah, even with the wonders of technology things don’t always go to plan and sometimes you just get a lemon. I’ve had a pretty good run so can’t complain too much.

Which watch did you have a problem with?
