Zenith Defy Classic Ceramic - thoughts?

So….. I’ve got the itch. I’ve been searching around for a new addition to the collection that is different to everything else I have. Like the idea of a different case material (all currently steel) and have found myself being drawn to the defy classic in black ceramic…. Or maybe even white….has anybody owned one or even tried on. I’ve only ever seen one in the wild back around the time of release in 2019.

I was just at my multi brand ad buying a Zenith Chronomastic with blue dial, checked out a few models in ceramic including a Breitling AVI GMT in ceramic which is amazing. I have become quite enamoured with black ceramic but understand that the material commands a premium price that is a bit premium, an opinion shared by my honest ad friend. I am a big advocate for satisfying itches or impulses as long as they are reasonable.

This Zenith continues to be part of my inner conversation . I love my chronomaster sport so I have high hopes for this . I’d love to know what you decide .

Funny timing, there’s a new Watchfinder about the Defy Skeleton:

Skeleton watches aren’t for me (I find them hard to read) and I kind of hate the name “Defy,” but looking past both points, these Defy’s are certainly very cool. But I think I’d go with an El Primero-based one that’s without the date wheel, since you can see the movement better.

Nice hope you are enjoying your new addition. Yes, a good point on cost but I think you can get these for about £5.25k in very good condition, box, papers and for a ceramic sports watch with in house movement that’s not too shabby imo.

Thanks for sharing, interesting to hear more on the background. Also not huge on skeleton dials but just something about this one that draws me in!

Ah ok yes pre owned makes good sense! I am too lazy to research and search for deals. I don’t buy enough to worry about best prices, tend to buy new if possible. I have not taken possession of the watch yet, my ad is going to source a Zenith OEM blue strap and clasp first. Sadly not available here in Canada distribution centre so it must come from America. Comes with living in a less populace country. Have a great day.

lol! Ad wants to get paid, I offered him payment but he insisted that there was no rush, of course he had no idea it would be 6-8 weeks for Canadian office so the agent reached to America. Know you will love the Defy ceramic. 👍

Wow that’s some gift! hope you now get enjoyment from seeing her wear it. My children are still young but I love the thought of passing on my watches to them or maybe even their children in the future. It’s a funny old hobby we have!

I own one. And it's a magnificent watch. Sometimes I'll look at it for the time and become so mesmerized I forget what I'm doing. The layers and depth of the face is startling, like a bird's eye view of a miniature city. What photos can't show is how legible it actually is. The faceting, mirror polishing of the indices and hands, and dramatic differences in depth make it surprisingly easy on the eyes. If you find one in excellent condition at a good price, I would jump on it. Truly a tiny work of mechanical art on your wrist.
