Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso

Haven’t been wearing this large size Mono Reverso much since bought it 2 years ago.

The JLC price increased since, abit too much IMO, got this model at $4,915 (discounted) and now the retail for $10,300, like 100% increased…?

But I don’t think it hold it value like Rolex despite the retail now has increased significantly…

What do you think about JLC’s pricing strategy now?

I get concerns about their pricing jump but their watches are some of my favorites. You’re getting top notch finishing with movements that have been used by the Holy Trinity. I tend to compare them to more prestigious brands than Rolex and I think they’re priced fair compared to them.

If your concern is mostly resale I get being turned off by them but if you plan to keep their watches indefinitely I think they’re amongst the best.

I think they went overboard with their pricing, probably expected the covid "boom" to last longer than it did. I think they will start losing even more market share if they do not normalize their prices with their new releases in 2024.

Imo it gives an impression their pricing getting appreciation from time to time, but in this case, in a very short period of time.

But that also turn alot of people eyeing on their watches look somewhere else, or something else.

The next brand under Richmont come close with proce increase rapidly should be IWC.

No doubt, their watch is one of the best.

I do agree with you, I think some of the brand got a taste of increased demand for their watches due to the post covid watch fever couple years back.

Part of it, not all, is. Some of the buyer wanted to build relationships with AD to get hold of the “Crown” they wanted, and even Tudor sold out, they have to buy something, and that force them looked into IWC,JLC, Cartier, Panerai, Zenith, GP and etc.

Therefore the chain on demand went up accordingly regardless of brands in the last couple of years.

But now, the retail price at this stage, i would think AD would starts to give out higher discount to moves those watches.

They were so underpriced, their watches are worth it. I think they were due a price increase, for too long they hadn’t incrementally crept up, they took one full swing and maybe hedged a hair to bring their prices current.

Too much at once, but hopefully we’ll see smaller more frequent ones in the future.

I think to stay relevant they had to. To not lose money, they had to. I believe the cache of being a pricier well made watchmakers watch running in the heels of the big boys and haute horology brands is a safer place to be than the cheapest option that nobody chose even by being the cheapest.

Fully agree agree on “nobody chose even by being the cheapest”.

I think it’s way too much to fast wrt price increases. The retail when I got mine was $9600 (I paid $1200 below retail). They are now listed for $13100 I think. Bonkers.

That said, I had the same watch you do, also owned it for two years, and also never really wore it. The benefit of the price increases is that I was able to sell it for the same amount I paid for it.

·

Crazy jumps. I probably wouldn't rebuy my Reverso Duo at current pricing. Now that I already own one, it doesn't make a difference. I love it.

·

I could be wrong about this but I think someone made a decision to move the JLC catalog up a few grades to close to the likes of VC or even AP. If they move up from entry level reverso it’s a good thing ?

That is exactly what I thought of.. the new white dial tribute looks amazing… at least with price increase now they gives something extra like “folding buckle”.

Back then was pin buckle right? But im not complaining with that price…

Not surprise with that decision. I think price increase is fine, but what they give in return in more important.

Like VC, the big three, IMO VC market status is behind (VC has the most stabil watch quality & movement) PP & AP, and they gives out some extra that you don’t get from PP & AP when buying new.

Extra rubber and leather straps with folding buckle

+ easy exchange system…

Make it a no brainer in that price bracket.

Simply too much/aggressive in short period of time. I had Reverso and Polaris chrono on my "next buy" list 1-2 years ago. Bought Speedy instead of Polaris and gave up on Reverso for now, the price for simple mono face version is simply ridiculous. Duoface seem like a bargin compared to mono nowadays, heck even the chrono.

You’re on point, the duo face is like “would you like a Venti size for a extra dollar?” 😂😂😂

I was lucky enough to buy my reverso before the post-pandemic price increase. I wouldn’t but it now, the starting price is just crazy for me.

So not just JLC, right. Most brands and models have significantly raised prices. Look at the speedy - raised prices by almost 30-35% in the last 24-36 months. It’s also demand, mechanical watch awareness on the whole.

Also I believe the Apple Watch has raised awareness of wearing watches, and introduced a lot of non watch people to mechanical side of things, yours truly included in that list. This has in turn raised the inquiries on the second hand markets which in turn is driving the prices up by manufacturers.

But personally for me I don’t look at the resale value of the watch while buying it, but look at brand value, historic positioning, materials used, movements offered, aesthetics, desirability and how much it tugs my heart. But also I’m so new to watches and still an amateur, just going after my lust list. So maybe after a few more years and few dozen watches I might sober down and think differently. 😊

Btw @Andy.K - love your jlc.

Here’s mine.

If watches weren’t such a discretionary product, one might consider Richemont’s price increases as gouging or predatory. As it stands, I can easily remove JLC or IWC from my shopping lists until they meet my standards of price/value.

No harm. No foul.

Agree on demand increased significantly during those period, not just for JLC, but for Omega, IWC and more.

Me too don’t look at resale value, if RV is good, great, if not, not gonna hurts. So far not getting rid of any watch yet, kinda hard to let go because why I thought of why get it at first place😅.

I guess is JLC progress to move up to the ladder, and I am sure is a no turning back route.

@Chopra you have a sick piece and it appreciated alot by now☺️

Not only for those who haven’t own one, for those who got into their brands, is kinda hard for us to acquire the 2nd, 3rd piece from the brand.

Unless, huge discount being given and i doubt it.
