Throwback, or comeback?

First I would like to thank Stephanie W. for helping me with this idea.

As I was growing up in the 80's and 90's... Commercials were very catchy and on point in all facets, whether it was electronics, cars, etc. and of course watches.

Celebrity hype, commercialization, and mass advertisement across all events and media were at it's finest. Over time you have seen companies fade away or take a back seat to more prominent brands.

When talking about watch brands, we see and hear all the usual suspects across all levels from the affordable to the high luxury... Microbrands not withstanding, what about the lesser hyped brands that still create masterful pieces?

I personally have been eyeing the brands listed on this poll and think they are the underdogs in the watch industry and should make a comeback. What do you think? Do any of these come back into the limelight? Am I crazy and these brands should just disappear? Or do you have other brands that you think deserve more attention? Please share your thoughts.

I think Zodiac has the best potential, but they are in a segment of the market that is saturated with other brands. Their prices have them competing with the Swatch group's brands like Mido, Hamilton and Tissot, as well as brands like Seiko, Christopher Ward, Sinn, Damasko, etc...

I agree whole heartedly.

When my brother and I were still young and stupid! I miss those days and him every minute of every day! I found a really good deal on 5 Ebel watches from a grey market guy who couldn’t give them away( not at the prices he was asking) Watches were amazing design with one of the best lines in advertising: EBEL ARCHITECTS OF TIME! The brand has resurfaced but the damage from the past may be too egregious in a super competitive market!

I thought Zodiac was still a solid recognized brand. I like them and I would buy one.

I think they took a step back when Fossil group purchased them. I might be wrong on this but that is what I have read.

I didn’t know. I like the super sea wolf collection. They have a great look. I’ll have to do some research. Thanks.

I own Granville and Sea Dragon and they are great watches.

They've always been popular with WIS types. It might have waned a bit in the early Fossil days but I'd wager that the past few years have been some of Zodiacs best.

Nice. I didn’t manage to keep my 1980s chrono but it was fitted with a El Primero movement. My nephew still has his dad’s two Ebel watches one is a Worldtimer with a 14kt gold bezel. The watches were ahead of its time.

I’m in the minority that went with Revue Thommen. I just picked up one of their diver watches and it seems pretty nice, though I haven’t worn it yet.

On the other hand, I’ve always had a soft spot for Zodiac…
