Orient Star EROM-CO CS

Hello and a happy (soon to be) new year to you all!

I'm looking at getting myself a nice looking Orient EROM-CO CS as seen in the picture. Well not that exact watch, but the same model. I'm looking for experiences with this model, if it's well built or not, with the movement which seems to be an 21J 48747. Any thoughts are appreciated!

The owner says it runs at 20-30+ spd, which seems decent enough for an old watch with an unknown service history. I'm not planning for this to be an everyday watch, in that case 20-30+ spd would be an annoyance to me, but rather as a watch to wear for a few days every few weeks, in which case 20-30+ spd shouldn't be much of a problem.

Currently I have several watches, but wear my every day automatic watch all but perhaps one day a month or on special occations. They're all quartz, so keeping time isn't really an issue. Do you guys have any tips on having a watch for wearing maybe once a week, which doesnt keep time very good?

Best regards,

Jon

Just wear it. How many times do any of us have to worry about 30 seconds in a day?

Just keep in mind that these are older models and it’s likely to have never been serviced. That’s most likely the reason for poor time keeping. You may need a service sooner versus later. I always try to factor that in when buying used watches that aren’t relatively new.

I just got the salmon dial and it does run about 30 seconds a day quicker. Overall the watch is pretty good quality for around 275-350 USD.

Well if I was to wear it everyday I would worry at least a couple of times a week! But you're right, I if I wore it a couple of times a week, I'd only have to reset once a week!

Yeah, same here. That's why "cheap" vintage watches usually ends up not making sense for me to buy, as the price to own it (in functional condition) is usually many times the acquisition price.

This piece really speaks to me though. Hence I'm wondering how it would be wearing it with a 30 seconds loss/gain a day 😁

Thanks for the reply! I take that the build quality/feel is better than what you would expect from say a 'normal' Orient (with no stars) if you had a 20-25 year old one? Does it feel robust enough, or a bit fragile like you'd better not overwind or pull out the crown to hard?

It maybe just me mentally but I don’t wanna wear it in many other situations besides at my work desk or a casually dinner. If I were to go on a hike I’d change watches.

That was my impression too. I read that it was 3 ATM water resistance, where I hoped for 5 at least. Is it "bad" for a desk watch, or similar as if you bought a newer dress watch with say 3 ATM WR?

I’d say it’s a good desk watch. It has some charm to it. A newer dress watch would probably be better. But it’s all about what you like. I like the look and I like that it’s as old as me lol and I’d take it over most other watches in the price range.

Yeah I think there's something to it that makes it really attractive. I was looking a new Orient Star watches, and there's plenty of unused new models for only twice the price of the EROM-CO, effectively making the old one more expensive when factoring in the cost of servicing... but there's just something to the old one. Can't really see myself with the newer models as I'm more of an sports or field watch guy. Vintage is my excuse for a "fragile"/dress watch 😁 Thanks for the feedback, it's been really helpful!
