Hi there!
I was hoping if any of you guys could help identify the lume material used on a vintage Seiko. Modelnumber is 6308-8000, and as seen on the dial it says "6308-8000L T", while on the back it says "TL".
I know Tritium has a very low half life, and while sealed in a watch and not ingested poses no harm. I just don't want to wear it. Any clues on the lume material?
Watch should be from around 1975-1986, so definately not LumiBrite... Were there any non-radioactive materials used between Tritium and Lumibrite?
This account is verified. WatchCrunch has confirmed that this account is the authentic presence for this person or brand.
Lick the dial, if your tongue falls off in 6 months you'll know it's dodgy and not to wear it. 😆
Hopefully someone will come along soon and give you a proper answer mate. 👍🏻
Maybe tritium if I was a betting man. Your watch was in production from 1976 to 1988.
The lume used would be Tritium. I think pretty much all lume used prior to 1999 would be radio active to a small degree (apart from Radium). From then on manufacturers started using photo luminescent compounds
