Background on the Taihangs marked ๅ็จ/military use

I have it from very knowledgeable collectors in China that the red [for military] markings on pieces like my Taihang, and my Jilin/Jixing examples were added somewhat recently, around 2005, to assist in marketing the pieces.I may have mentioned that before as I first heard that a while ago, but it came up again tonight in discussion. I consider the information authoritative given my sources, and it makes perfect sense to me.
That aside, Shijiazhuang Wristwatch Factory ็ณๅฎถๅบๆ่กจๅ did itself proud. I've had this and worn it lots for 16 years now. It's slim, wears very easily on the wrist and still keeps good time. Linen dial

I purchased it from a seller on Taobao back in about 2009 or 2010. Especially the Jixing still occasionally turn up on Taobao in very good shape at sensible prices because they aren't a well known target of collectors.

For DongFeng and Sea-Gull, you can actually buy new dials on Taobao with this kind of additional red print.
This is the reason why I refrain from buying DongFeng and Sea-Gull watches with the "For Serving the People" or "Service Watch" marking.
Same goes for the wording "East Wind Suppresses West Wind" on the case back. The real mccoy is machine pressure pressed, not etched or engraved.
I've seen a legitimate Dongfeng with the "to serve the people" markings and I've also seen the new re-prints. There's noticeable differences.
