I'd go with the classic Alpinist like SPB121 or the Baby Alpinist SPB155 if you don't want the compass complication.
Or the Laurel Alpinist SPB241 if you want a mix of dress and sporty.
If you going for Seiko 5, there is SRPE51 and similar references which are great all round watch. Can play around with different straps to suit the occasion. Or the SRPD dive style models for more sporty look. There are also field variants like SRPG35.

I have tried that Watch on actually. I think the cyclops just doesnโt do it for me though but itโs still a gorgeous piece
A 5 or an Alpinist is a great place to start but what's your budget? If the money is there you can vault into some much more interesting territory with the Presage or Grand Seiko models I'd you want to push the proverbial boat out...?

Iโd say get a 009 itโs an absolute classic
Alpinist ๐
I love my GS diver (SBGA229), or if your budget won't stretch, the Captain Willard is a beauty (SPB153J1), on the green strap and green dial.
Id always choose a seiko 5.

it's a big catalog...but something at every price point for sure
Depending on your budget Iโd recommend the SPB143
