Pull the trigger…

I’ve been wanting this watch for so long now. It’s gorgeous and could really be the only thing you need.

Problem is, it’s 7000€ at the AD or boutique but if you check Chrono24 you can get it at around 5200 to 5600 brand new from EU seller.

So that’s crazy and also makes it harder to pull the trigger.

How can there be such a price difference between the same new product? Makes zero sense to me.

So yeah, I guess I’ll need a bit more time to really make up my mind on what to do!

Any suggestions?!

Go Chrono 24. The saving are quite large, just make sure he's legit.

I love that watch. The entire AT line is amazing.

I would check the prices on other gray market dealers, like chronext too. If the prices are only low on chrono24, i would be suspicious...

When you are shopping at an ad you get to try on the watch you hope to buy, examine carefully, ask for a different model if something doesn’t feel right about the movement or there is a small scratch that you do not want on your new watch. A chance to hold some person or business responsible for potential issues in the future, peace of mind, etcetera. The customer will decide if some of those benefits are worth the extra dollars spent on a grown up toy? I always buy new and from an ad that I have some familiarity with. Watches are a carefree affectation for me, I try not to worry too much about getting a best deal on a object that is supposed to relieve the bigger issues in my life. I have a good friend that I started in the hobby, he appears to be always upset or angry about the price or lack of respect at the Rolex ad or some attractive sales prof who doesn’t enjoy his jokes or flirting, after an hour listening to him rant, I suggested he try buying his next new watch on line.

Beautiful watch, go for it

Personally I've very rarely bought new as I really don't see the value in it.

It is a great watch. I want the 38mm central seconds model myself, also on the rubber band.

I would go grey. I have never bought an Omega at an AD, always grey, never had an issue. Getting between 20% and 25% off is not that crazy. The AD probably has a 30% to 40% margin so everybody can still make money, the AD and the grey dealer. Worst case scenario it has unstamped papers AND needs a service because something isn't working properly, that's around 700€... so with that baked in it's still over 1000€ in savings and it comes back with an Omega warranty 😀

The crazy thing, is that it comes with a Omega warranty…. So thats why im very confused how these prices can be offered.

Well, the ADs can probably give a 20% discount without too much issue and still make a bit of money. If you buy dozens of watches from them, they probably will. After all this isn't Rolex and they can just order another one of those watches from Omega in and have it in a week or so.

I suppose some of these places have their "guys" where they get watches and it's basically drop shipped from the AD and papers are might even be stamped with a date from 2 days before it arrived, ie the day of shipment. The grey dealers likely operate on very thin margins because for them there is no risk and not much physical stock involved. 20% to 25% is not THAT wild if the watches don't sell themselves and have been in the catalog for a while. If you go to a multi brand non boutique AD and tell them you'll take it for 6000€ right this moment they will probably bite.

I know that some places are actually quite desperate, I was once looking at a shop window and a sales associate literally dragged me inside saying he can give me the "best deal" 😏 he was at 10% off anything before we entered the store and didn't even ask what I was actually looking at. I am not even exaggerating. The shop had many brands but no Rolex or PP and so there is little incentive to "build a relationship" and those who want Omega go to one of the other places that do in fact have Rolex and PP and just buy it there. If you're a volume dealer you just need a place like this to make those discounts happen.

Be careful of possible taxes. I have been tempted by things from Japanese vendors as they are often cheaper but the savings are not so big after 20% import duties

The good thing with the EU, is that there are no “surprise” taxes they can be added. So as Long as you shop within it should be fine.

I'd go Chrono24 or any other reputable secondary seller. You can ask for a discount from the AD (but not boutique) and you should get about 10% to 15% off. I'd only go the AD path if I am trying to clock spending/"build relationship".

You are right of course, except that some crooks persuaded enough of my fellow citizens that life would be better outside the EU. I’m lucky as I can always ship to my parents who live in the EU
