It might sound strange but as an everyday watch, i'm preferring my Seiko Alpinist SPB155J1 to my beloved Hamilton Khaki Field Auto 38mm

Apart from the unregulated movement, the Alpinist is just a better watch in every way possible.

Considering the Hamilton costs $750 on a bracelet after the recent price increase and you can pick up the Seiko for lesser than $700, it's hard to beat what the Alpinist offers and is just a better everyday watch.

A friend of mine swapped out the sapphire crystal in his Khaki Field for one with AR and it made a huge difference.

In Italy the Alpinist can be found new for around €550 in well-known jewellers 😉 I agree about the irregular movement of the Seiko. If i use mine all day from morning to evening it maintains good accuracy over the long term. By gaining seconds during the day that it loses by night by compensating. It’s all based on positions.

You do get very good deals on the Alpinist models, I picked up my SPB121 for only $625. Compared to the current prices of Hamilton watches, the sister companies like Tissot and Mido offer better value. Hamilton has to update a lot of their models.

I regulate my 6R movements after a couple of months of use and my watches run quite accurately. The positional variance in Seiko's movements sorts out itself. My 62mas is regulated to +5 seconds dial face up but in the 12 down position, the rate is -3 seconds and throughout the day it works itself out. When I pick up the watch in the morning to wear, the watch is only off by 1 or 2 seconds.
