In 2080...

I find it farfetched that two or three generations down the line (circa 2080), mechanical wrist watches will still be around, maybe in some circles in a very romantic way... or in some very obscure social circles trying to keep them alive... what do you think?

I’m sorry but you’re worried about what now?

I believe it's a possibility.

I object to being called obscure, though.

Nope.

Pretty sure if there'd been forums in 1970 at the start of the quartz crisis, same thing would have been said.

50 years later still around.

Maybe not as popular, but a resurgence is actually begining kind of. Social media is def helping. Lots of GWOT babies, are settling down, have stable incomes and are discovering the joys of mechanical watches. Whether from nostalgia, or wanting a watch like they saw way back when. YMMV.

Mechanical watches have been obsolete since 1980, why would they suddenly disappear?

People still sail, ride horses, fence, use fountain pens, etc... Just because something is "old" does not mean it will disappear.

True, maybe. Know a bunch of people, an entire generation actually (present company included), who wouldn't take too kindly to that future. Granted we would have been weeded out, put places, or flat out disappeared, still wouldn't change the stance. 🤘🏻🤙🏻🤐.
