What was the watch that got you hooked?

Watch Crunchers! I can’t get rid of some of my watches because they have meaning to me. And now I was told, by my family, that some of my watches have meaning to them also.

So it got me thinking how did I get to this place where my hobby is becoming a family collection? I realized it was my first watch that started it all. A watch my wife bought me a year ago. One of the watches I won’t part with, the Raymond Weil Freelancer. I love that watch. That’s all it took for me to get hooked. A great watch. What was the watch that got you hooked?

Teddy got you hooked. That’s solid! I like the Duro as your first. Great choice, it deserves a lot of wrist time.

Much cooler than mine. As much as I dislike what it represents now, for me it was the Museum Watch. Elegant and timeless. I thought it was the “I made it” watch.

I’m sure you did make it! Value or perceived value doesn’t have anything to do with the idea of success or “you made it”. It’s simply a marker. That Museum watch is a good looking watch regardless. 🔥

Wanted to ditch the Apple Watch so I tested the waters with this Casio F-91 and was immediately hooked and less than a year later I’m in for this, g shock, 2 PRXs, omega AT, spinnaker, and potentially a brew watch being ordered soon! I’ll swap watches even just leaving work to getting home, these are a blast!

It’s definitely a fun time. I like that Casio. 💯

Seiko Presage Sharpedge SPB169 was the watch that got me hooked. I wasn't into watches before, but when I saw the dial, something changed!

Right on. It doesn’t take much. 🤝

Orient Mako Gen I. Still have it, still runs, it's been with me since 2007 and seen and done some stuff....🫣😉!

Is it the GOAT? No, but it will always hold a special place in the collection, it was the OG gateway 😂.

First pic is even with the OG Maratac Bond Zulu, also from '07...🤯! Still fits, but it's getting a bit too stretched out and loose to wear often anymore sadly.

I don’t know. It a solid watch all around. The bracelet, dial and bezel are outstanding. The only issue I think they have for some people is they use an ETA movement and they’re pricey. I think they’re prices are comparable to Oris. I didn’t know anything watches when it was given to me. All I knew was that I thought it was really cool and I wanted more.

The watch that got me hooked was the SLAVA 2427 Automatic aka. the Tank, Televisor or simply TV. The story goes, this Russian watch company bought the entire production line of a Favre Leuba Duomatic automatic watch and guess what, the first watch they produced looked very much like this Favre Leuba watch.

This Oris Big Crown was the first 'serious' new watch I purchased back in 2005 - a mere 20 years or so after being wowed by a glittering display tray of Oris in a jeweller's window. Although now only 3rd cheapest in monetary value of my 4 and not worn very often, it still ranks and always will as my 'best' watch.

That's fire. I've almost pulled the trigger on watch many times. I always go back to it and it's always on a list. I feel the same way about GS. However neither one of those watches has made it into my box yet. I'm sure I'll own both eventually. Wear it well. Outstanding watch to get you hooked.

Thank you sir. My most recent purchase this year was of an older Raymond Weil quartz l wear a lot as a work watch.

On my wrist as we speak.

Likewise - wearing my Parsifal 6000 now as a test-drive to see what I think about a modification I felt compelled to make to it earlier today.

That yellow pops.

·

Phone camera makes the dial colour look slightly greener than reality - it's a more buttery yellow to the naked eye and better for it I think.

Yeah, I think it looks great in the photo. I'm sure it looks better in person.
