I can’t seem to get rid of my First Omega In Space.

I thought I’d do a follow up post about the Omega “First Omega In Space” I did a couple of weeks ago. The post was called “What do you do with a watch you love but don’t like to wear”. The post got a lot of feed back so I thought I’d tell you what I decided to do.

The decision came easy once I got invited to the watch meet-up at Toppers Fine Jewelers yesterday. Thank you, Vu @AlohaBrah21 for setting that up. It was a success and I had a great time. To everyone I met there. It was a privilege to meet you all, to see all your watches, to learn about them and to get to know you. The Bay Area can represent.

Ok back to the Omega. So packed up a hand full of watches to share. In that hand full I took the FOIS, a Norqain Chrono to trade and some cash to Topper for a new Glashette Original SeaQ.

So that was my decision. I was going to trade it for another watch. A watch that I’d wear. It was a great plan. Until it wasn’t.

Let me explain. I took my son Eddie, @eddie1 with me to the meet-up. We got there early because we had some business to do before hand. He has a old vintage Rolex DJ that he got from his grandfather that needs repair and refurbishing. And I was going to get trade in values for my 2 watches. Sounds easy enough right. Until I pulled out the Speedy in front of Eddie and asked for the trade in value. This is where my plan goes sideways. Eddie immediately insists that I don’t sell it. That he wants it. That he would buy it if need be. I can’t say no to that. The plan is over. I can’t trade the watch. So there no need to trade the Norqain either. My business was done.

When the meet-up started I pulling out watches from a bag. Now between my son and I we took 10 watches. Neither one us has a watch roll, so we put each watch into a zip lock baggie and put them in a bag. Our idea of the a watch roll. (Eddie we both have birthdays coming up, hint hint!)

So Vu is checking out my watches and asks if I would sell him my Speedy. Everyone wants that Omego but me. I must missing something. I wouldn’t have had a problem selling it to Vu but he’d have to get past my son first and that wasn’t going to happen. So I couldn’t sell the watch. Sorry Vu!

The meet-up ended. I left with my ALL MY WATCHES and not the watch I wanted. I couldn’t make a trade to Topper’s, I couldn’t sell it to Vu and I’m not sure I can sell it to my son. To make matters worse I told my wife about the my plithe. Then she said “You want to sell the Norqain. I love that watch. Why would you do that? That’s a big mistake.”

Wow! How do I respond to that? It’s a good thing the deal at Topper’s didn’t materialized or I might be writing this post from the hospital.😂 I’m just joking around my wife is truly a saint. Now, I have 2 watches I can’t part with. The GO I want is slipping through my fingers for now. And my watch collection is becoming a family collection. You’ve got to love my family. Ok you don’t but I do!

So after all that I still have my FOIS. Thank you WC for all your advise. I tried to use it all. When I devised another plan to off load that watch I’ll let you know. However, today I’m going to keep it. Eddie we’ll talk later.

Just get the GO for a “family” present. You can pass on the FOIS and Norqain and the GO will be the consolation prize.

Hope to meet you all next time.

Haha first off, it was a pleasure meeting you and Eddie. Really happy you two made the drive up. Family always comes first and seeing how Eddie loves watches and wants the Omega, it’s a no brainer! I loved joking with you guys about competing for the watch, but I understandably don’t stand a chance! Also love that you and your son connect through watches and plastic baggies are the container of choice😝😂 until next time, buddy! 🤙

Thanks Kevin, that’s a great idea. Maybe I’ll pass the hat around for help. 😂

We’ll meet next time. You have a great excuse for not attending. Hope your still enjoying vacation. Cheers!

Happy your son stepped in and stepped up in that moment to proclaim "his" watch. You have to respect him! I'm sure he will always remember the moment "he stopped his father from selling his watch" ;) Awesome story and the Speedy will be handed down, as if should be!

He’ll end up with it for sure! I might make him sweat it for a while. 😂

I seem to recall suggesting you keep the watch for your son. My wife who doesn’t care about my watches never wants me to part with any. She knows that I know exactly why also. That SEAQ is a killer but I have too many watches to catch up with before the end of the year. Good luck with your future watch events.

Your son is smarter than you. Well done. 😜
