People who can fix watches look away now! If you get nervous swapping a battery read on. So anyway... I picked up this Titoni from "a popular auction site" for a reasonable price. It was clearly used in the pictures with some scratches etc, but the seller said it worked and the price reflected the condition, so I took a gamble... I pulled it from the jiffy bag, and gave it a shake... nothing. So I gave it a wind and it starts ticking - yes! I set the time to my other watch, and went out for the afternoon. On return, its still ticking, but a few seconds off from my other watch. I shake it, and can't hear the rotor spin. So its winding, and running, but automatic isn't right and accuracy is a little off. So do I send it to a repairer, or have a look myself? I decide to chance it. I've got a few "entry level" tools, so I take the back off and straight away can see that the rotor is rubbing against the plastic ring that holds the movement. Doesn't look right. Then I see that the rotor itself is separated slightly. So, I unscrew it, push the 2 parts back together, and screw it back on. Before putting the back on, I have a go on the watch accuracy app on my phone. I don't understand beat rate and stuff, but I can tell the numbers aren't right. The little levers to adjust don't have +/- on them so I just do some trial and error... and it comes out minus 1 second a day!!!! Anyway, I set it to the computer, and this morning its literally 2 seconds slower than the computer! So I've spent an hour or 2 with the polishing cloth and a wooden cocktail stick picking the skank out of the bracelet. I'm so chuffed with this! Proper job.
