Returning a watch - Chrono vs eBay

How was your experience in returning a watch on Chrono24 vs eBay? Why did you return it and was it difficult?

I have returned a few watches with ebay, probably 6 or 7. Vintage watches that refused to work when advertised as fully working mainly. I've had issues also with non watch stuff using ebay. Usually the seller hasn't had a problem with my request and issued full refunds even if returns are not allowed. In the odd case my reason for wanting to return has been disputed, ebay's customer guarantee has enabled me to get a full refund. Of course all my disputes have been fair and reasonable so I guess that's to be expected.

Personally I rate ebay excellent from a buyer's perspective.

I have never used Chrono24.

Thanks @Betelgeuse ! I’ve been thinking of vintage omega too as a daily dress, and I worry the exact same thing.

With eBay, would returning a watch require some kinda proof to prove that the watch is damaged/defunct etc?

Hello there.

For myself, just one photo and an explanation is all that is required. The return postage has also been arranged by the seller. The process is so intuitive that even a technophobe like myself manages it!

Incidentally, I'm always sensible who I purchased from. Firstly look at feedback. I never drop below 98% or 100 feedback ratings. Some sellers even accept returns of course so if there was no fault, you just didn't want it for some reason, you pay postage and can return it. Look out for that maybe but as I said before if you have a genuine complaint on a non return purchase ebay will step in. They have for me anyway.

Good luck with your potential purchase. 👍🙂

I've had good luck with eBay. I got one watch that was damaged in shipping. I was able to contact the seller, and he agreed to repair the watch, since I really liked it. I have also got a good relationship with a different seller who has a watchmaker that services all his watches before he lists them. He is also willing to repair my vintage watches at a very reasonable price. I have no experience of Chrono 24.

Currently in a dispute with eBay.

The vintage watch did not work when it arrived. Now that I’ve sent it back, their authenticators are claiming the watch is not in the same condition as when they sent it - in good faith I assume that is was working when they sent it and it was damaged in transit to me as I’ve only had it out of the box to test if it worked and never wore it.

To be determined what happens (I’d ideally like the watch, but that the watch be functional, as advertised) but it has been a frustrating experience to say the least.
