Most watch enthusiasts know that the Omega Speedmaster was the first watch on the moon, but only a subset know of the Bulova Accutron that helped get it there. Bulova Accutron Spaceview. I believe that the development of the movement was even classified as top secret because the US didn't want to give any advantage away in the space race.
Also.....be careful out there guys. If you want to buy an open dial accutron with a view of the movement, there are innumerable watches which have been converted to resemble the original 'space view' watches. If you want originality, be careful, if not don't worry but the accutrons with dials are also very cool too.
This is one I sold a few years ago.
Am I the only one having difficulty finding a “normal” looking watch with this movement? The movement looks like…well, and Apple Watch without a screen. It’s just not futuristic anymore, everything looks that way on the inside now.

I just want a watch with that movement, that sweeping seconds hand.

The original movement is hard to find now. I once had one as a teenager, long gone I’m afraid. I’ve filled that slot in my case for now with an Accutron II - different movement I know, but still has that smooth second hand!
I think the memory of my Accutron may have driven me to my GS’s too.
Love these watches! Great story, great technology and some killer designs! I use to have a view, but sold most of them when I moved abroad. I kept the one I wore the most and just got batteries ordered for it. I will post a picture when it's running again!
