Your thoughts about Gevril / GV2

Hello Watchers! I have my eyes on a Gevril "Nautilus" homage lately (homage watches' haters this post is not for you sorry). The model is GV2 18100 Men's Potente Swiss Automatic Stainless Steel Date Watch. I have checked over and over the reviews about Gevril online and I cannot make up my mind. I understand that it uses Miyota movements, in most cases, disguised as the mysterious Swiss Ruben & Sons, but again their watches seem to be decent and robust (good level of specs like sapphire, automatic mvt) and all info points to the fact that the final checks are taking place in Switzerland. If you get their watches at the right price then I feel it is a bargain (300-500 €). Paying of course 4K or 5K for any of their watches is a no go. Your thoughts are more than welcome. Sorry if this has been discussed again and in this case if you can direct me to the right thread it will be really helpful. Take care everyone!

I would rather spend money on an ETA or Sellita powered watch. The prices for Gervil are all over the spectrum so it comes down to value retention or that you just like them.

I fully understand your point and I wouldn’t agree more if I didn’t know that finding a Swiss watch with ETA or Sellita movement at the price range I find the model I mentioned above (450€) will be quite challenging. We are talking about an automatic watch not a quartz in any case! I am intrigued by the fact that I see this model being sold as preowned at 900-1000$ so it seems like a good short term investment but maybe I am wrong of course.

I’ve posted about Gevril a few times and despite their strange pricing strategy which gets people offside, the watches are actually quite nice quality.

Most of the Gevril branded watches have Sellita movements and the GV2 line tend to have the Ruben & Sons fitted, although there are some exceptions.

Case finishing is really good, but the clasps on the bracelets could be better.

You can find great deals on Ashford, Jomashop and WatchGang have heaps of them too.

I think they’re equal quality to the likes of Hamilton, Certina and Mido in most cases.

The Wall Street and Vaughn Chrono for example are awesome watches.

I bought this GV2 as a gift for my mum and couldn’t fault it.

I also have this GV2 Scuderia and the build quality is as good as my TAG F1.

Honestly, Gevril/Gv2 are excellent watches as long as you don’t pay their MSRP. If they’d fix their pricing strategy and stop selling on the shopping channels they could really build their brand reputation up.

There’s a couple of Gevril’s on display in the Rolex museum, so if they could tap more into their history they’d be on a winner.

If you like it and can get it at a price you’re happy with, I say go for it.

Thanks for the very detailed information and I love your watches. This is the kind of information I collected online as well. As I said in my initial post as long as you don’t pay the ridiculous MSRP and you find a good deal then they are decent quality watches and there is a Swiss history they can build on. Again thanks for your suggestions!! All the best
