A Brief Encounter

Today, in the little Southern English city I live in, I came across a German family walking our high street. So far so unremarkable, we get lots of German tourists.

But the mother of the family wore a sweatshirt with the words "Sinn Spezialuhren", in rather large letters. I am not aware of any such merchandise of Sinn, so I suspect she might work at the company.

I felt disinclined to make any enquiries to quench my curiosity as both parents were in the process of telling off their apparently misbehaving little boy, and I didn't want to intrude this private moment. Besides, I didn't have anything profound to say to them anyway, and I was wearing a Cadisen which had the potential for awkwardness.

I commend you on your manners, but think what could have been. Yes it's a fine line and sometimes fortune favours the brave. You probably did the right thing *English reserve* an all that. Ours is a very niche interest and it's daunting to step across the threshold and converse with the wider world. But what could have been???

I assume you read the situation well. But with your heritage you had an extra ticket starting the conversation besides the T-shirt.

BTW I found the place where I lived for a month: St Martin’s Mill
