Seiko Prospex GMT vs Sumo Solar GMT

I am a fan of GMT watches.

I have the Seiko Sumo Solar GMT in green (SFK003J) and I think that a well-executed quartz traveler’s GMT watch is one of the coolest things.

I thought that I wouldn’t be interested by the new Seiko Prospex GMT (my short hand for Seiko PROSPEX 1968 Diver’s Modern Re-interpretation GMT) with the new 6R54.

I thought it would be too similar in design and execution to the Sumo Solar, and the traveller’s GMT suits my needs better than a caller’s.

Yesterday, I tried on the SPB383 (they only had the black one left), and now I am conflicted and somewhat obsessed…

What are your thoughts on the new Seiko GMT watches? Will you be getting one? Do you own one? Let me know.

I like em. I will not be getting one though. Too many watches I’m eyeing up and too little wrist time to go around.

Always bet on black

I also have the solar GMT and don’t really have the need for a second caller style GMT. Though if they dropped the solar module into a smaller case (a thinner 40mm sumo in my dreams) I would definitely pick that up

I'm pretty happy with the #jackmason Strat-o-timer and the #citizen Promaster Marine GMT, both traveler's. The JM is much less expensive and has a better design (imo) than the Prospex. I'll pass on the new Seiko 6R54

Never heard of Jack Mason watches before, thanks for sharing! These look pretty cool. Miyota 9075 really opened a new landscape for GMT watches.

Couldn’t agree more

I love the green one. The black face it to ordinary, but black is classic. The green is stunning.

Pictures don’t do the SPB383 justice. My buddy let me borrow his and it’s stunning. The dial isn’t that busy and it definitely wears much smaller than the dimensions would lead on. I have the seiko 5 gmt and the whole thing wears larger mainly because the dial is larger. Also that diver bezel is so nice!

I'm pretty sure the solar sumo is a flyer GMT.

Yeah it’s definitely a flyer, typo on my end.
