Seiko Service & Repair Experiences Anyone?

Hey Crunchers! Have a few questions: Has anyone ever sent their Seiko watch(es) to Seiko for maintenance/repair? The reason that I ask is because I am about to send some of these guys to Seiko for some cleaning and adjustments. I have already gone to their website and found out that they charge per type of movement. The 7T34 movements get a price of $129 and this includes:

  • Complete service of the watch movement.*

  • Fix or replace necessary movement parts.

  • Replacement of gaskets and water resistance testing.**

  • Replacement of either battery, ion cell, or rechargeable battery (depending on quartz caliber).

  • Necessary lubrication.

  • Timing adjustments and accuracy testing to caliber specifications.

  • Ultrasonic cleaning of case and band.

*Please know that service for older, discontinued calibers may not be possible if movement parts are no longer available.  Final determination will be made upon watchmaker inspection.

Let me know your watch repair experiences, whether it is a Seiko or Omega.

Have a great day everyone!

I have sent two watches to Seiko USA for service. I can’t speak to prices as both watches were still under warranty. However, in both instances, I was pleased with the experience as the issues were addressed both fully and timely.

Do you mind explaining what you sent the watches in for and what models were they?

I sent in my SKX007 for a complete service few weeks back and I got a quote with $120 as the price for 7s26 service plus additional if any replacements should be made. Complete service covers the movement (in my case they said the 7s26 will be replaced with a new one), new gaskets, pressure test and case cleaning. Additional charges will be for the crown, handset or crystal if those need replacement. Service time is anywhere between 4-12 weeks (may depend on your location). They will give you an option for case and bracelet polishing for a extra charge which you can choose to do or not for some models.

Edit: I sent my SKX for service because it was in dire need of service after almost 8 years of use. It started losing about a minute a day and the power reserve barely lasted. Kept the watch in drawer for almost a years thinking I would swap the 7s26 for a 4R but I didn't want to do anything to my first automatic watch so finally gave it for service.

Only one experience and that was covered by warranty. Had to send a brand new USA exclusive turtle ice diver watch back for regulation as it ran way out of spec. It now runs much better and came back in a week or so.

I sent in a SARB017 that was running about a few minutes slow each day. I sent in a SPB215 that had some debris on the dial and was running outside of tolerances.

I did it with my Seiko Sumo (6R15). Unfortunately the Service would have been more expensive than a new caliber. Service or new caliber - this was pretty close to the price of the whole watch.😢

So what did you decide to do at the end?

I decided to take the new caliber. Would I do it again? No.

I have recently sent my SARB033 for servicing due to the time running slow appox. 1-2 mins a day. Also requested to replace the sapphire crystal due to a scratch on it. Total cost : 60 + 160 (SGD 220).

It’s has been a month and so far no news from the service center. Probably needs another few weeks to get back my watch.
