Titanium or Stainless Steel?

What case material do you like more and why? Titanium or Steel? I wore steel for the first couple years after getting into watches. When I switched to titanium, it was really tough to put a stainless steel watch back on my wrist. Biggest change for me was the weight.

I have yet to own Titanium but look forward to trying it some day.... I like the idea of it for sure.

They are much different than stainless steel for sure. We are in DC each March for a show called District Time where we would be happy to have you handle our titanium watches 👍

District Time this year was where I first got to see some of your watches.... I tried to get my Brother to let me buy him a watch from you all..... and I put you on my list. We BOTH love the green Hyper-G.

I don't think I like one over the other more ... except as I'm learning in the Maryland humidity. The lightness of ti really makes a breathability difference on my wrist, and even with my lightest steel watch, I'll choose ti. Now as the year goes on, ask me again 😂

·

But I'd live to one day try a ti diver while wearing a steel watch and compare.

·

I’m not tied to either…I like the fact they have a different feel

·

Love steel for its brightness and weight on a dress watch, love Titanium for its lightness and technicity on a sport/gada watch.

·

I am Titaniiiiiuuuuummmm.

I like both but titanium has a refreshing lightness to it. For certain watches (dive, chronos, field,) titanium works quite well.

Oh cool! I look forward to seeing you there next year! The green Hyper-G gets lots of attention at shows.

·

I can see that and have gone through phases of liking the heft myself!

Haha that is a fair answer! I live out in the dry desert so I don't get much of the humidity but could see the lighter weight making it a bit more friendly on the wrist. 😂

I will have a Titanium 5 (just like the Hyper-G) at next years District Time that you can compare it to.

It is nice to have a collection with both!

·

It is nice to have a variety of different materials, they have different looks and feels. I can help out with that need 😉

·

That is an important factor that I didn't mention!

·

Titanium! I like the warm grey color and lightweight.

·

Steel

·

Titanium just don't resonate with me. Looks too utilitarian, too industrial.

·

I like the color of stainless better. I have a large watch made of titanium with a titanium bracelet and it is very comfortable because it is so lightweight.

I think you would like Titanium Grade 5, it is the color of stainless steel, but very light as it is titanium, best of both worlds!

Thats fair, It is typically used for tool watches, I can see it.

Steel

You are not alone in that!

·

I have heard that some think it feels cheap or looks plastic. The weight does help, with the SWC ARK that I have, there are times I forget it is there, but I like the lack of weight!

I too enjoy the color, especially when polished. It has a look of treated steel.

I'm an either/or on this one. Both are great materials if a watch's design is suitable. Sometimes the lightness of a Ti watch is fantastic, other times I want some heft.

I agree they are both great and have their cases where they shine brighter than the other!

Steel for the heft and it feels smooth on the skin. Ti for the lightness but somehow feels sticky on my skin.

Interesting, I haven't heard of the sticky feeling, something for me to look out for when I wear titanium.

I do both. I've got a Mido Ocean Commander Ti that I really enjoy wearing. I love its lightness but I also have any number of 316L cased watches that I also love wearing (right now it's my Squale 1521 Blasted 50 atmos). There are times I want a watch that I barely feel on the wrist and other times, I want to feel that heft.

The Mido Ocean Commander is a great looking piece. I will admit, there are times when I do appreciate the heft of steel.

Not sure about other Ti models. I have a Pelagos LHD in grade 2. I haven't tried any grade 5's. There might be a difference when it comes to the sticky feeling. 🤔

Could be.. I will keep an eye out for it!

Titanium, and it isn't a close decision for me. Lightweight comfort for me! Wearing a black hyper-g right now, and the bang for the buck is super high.
