Cyma Navystar

I have been after a #cyma piece for the collection for a while. #japanese #seiko and #russian #vostok pieces take up the vast majority of slots in my #watchboxes, I've started to add a few #swiss pieces as timing, eclectic taste, and dollars have allowed. A 1990s #quartz #certina, a random #tegrov #diver-#worldtimer, a 70s #camy automatic... But finally I have added myfirst bona fide Swiss #vintage piece in this late 1950s #cyma #navystar.

And I couldn't be happier 😜.

I attend a lot of auctions for work (unrelated to watches) and invariably there estate jewelry and watches that are randomly tacked on to auctions I'm dealing with, or preceding/following the auction I'm interested in. That was the case here. Among several large diggers and cranes up for auction ranging from £20,000-£200,000 was this. Opening bid...£50!

I actually think to myself that I can't be bothered dealing with it. While I'm using a clients money to buy a digger and a couple of forklifts, my money, of the Australian dollarie-doo kind gets me 50p to the dollar. "Maybe next time." I think.

No one bids... The auctioneer drops the opening ask to £40...

I've already made up my mind, but AUD$80 is less than $100 (you can tell I'm both good at maths and make a killing for my clients). So I bid £40.

Someone has the temerity to call "45" from the back of the room. The online bidders and phone bidders have no interest. They're here for the heavy plant (like I'm supposed to be).

Me: "50!"

The other guy: "55!"

The nerve! And while I'm struggling to quickly find what the market price on a Navystar is via an eBay search a second voice calls "60!"

Best I can tell, a Cyma Navystar in good condition like this one goes for about AUA$180.⁰⁰ via eBay or Etsy...

"90 pounds!" I yell in what was, in hindsight, a cliche of that guy at their first auction. Don't mind that some Chinese company plonked down several million pounds for a couple of Cat 797s in the previous lot.

And that was that.

There is barely a scratch on this 50+ year old Swiss beauty and a much desired piece now sits on my wrist.

Never heared about Cyma...but suddenly two Cyma posts in a row.

Great story! You mentioned a '70s Camy automatic; as the biggest Camy fan in the world, I have to ask you to share some pictures.

I also won my first Cyma at an auction too, which ended the opposite way that yours did, in a massive anticlimax. I was the only bidder... I'm waiting for that to arrive soon.
