commented onLooking To Get Into Vintage Skin Divers, Any Suggestions On Where To Start?·
I had a couple of Caravelle skin divers from the 60s. 36mm, no date…loved those things so much, and I gave them to friends as gifts when they were starting to get into watches. Back in the day I guess Caravelle was a brand with some cachet. These days not so much.

If prices are skyrocketing due to lack of supply, where did this huge uptick in demand come from? The forums are saying it’s mostly first time luxury watch buyers that just assume Rolex is a must have and won’t know to look at brands like Zenith. Seems like the pandemic really threw fuel on the fire that is Rolex demand.
Steal away! Just glad it makes sense to you. I’ve gotten my fair share of eye rolls when I talk about watches this way (most of them deserved, haha). Being a watch enthusiast is silly a lot of the time.
I love watches because, in this tiny thing that fits on your wrist, you have the intersection of engineering, art, design, physics, history, economics, humor, beauty, philosophy, sociology, politics, and culture. These stupid, amazing little pieces of jewelry connect us to the best and worst of humanity, and obsessing over them is equal parts absurd, academic, fun, and grueling. Worse ways to pass the time.
