Love the speedie, but at 5k now new, they are becoming expensive. As little as 3 years ago could get one for 3k. I think the rolex crazy price thing has a big part to play in this price difference. It's a shame because for most people a rolex sub has become unattainable, and the speedie looks to be going the same route !!!

I keep telling myself that Im going to get either a birth year sub or speedy for my 40th next year. Thankfully I have over a year to save up.

Both are iconic watches , good luck to getting either one. I'm a bit of a seiko fan, and got a great used deal on a sla043. And I believe these high end seikos are equal in build quality to both the rolex and omegas. I managed to bag one for 2.4k used but mint , so I'm happy !!!

I really like the SPD143, but I have and have had a ton of Seikos so I want to do something different. I like the idea of grabbing a sub or speedy at 40 and being "done" with my core collection. Then I can just buy and flip cheaper stuff and keep my heirloom watches, and like 3 keepers.

No I get where your coming from, you won't regret either choice I'm sure. You have to be a big seiko fan to purchase a sla model, because to most people a seiko is not a luxury watch . But for me personally I'm in the camp where I feel both the sub and the speedie have become overpriced. That said if I could get a sub at it's 8k retail price, then I probably would. You won't lose money on either model , long term , as I can't see either model getting cheaper. Good luck !!!

Swiss watch in a German car is a great combo ;)
I am wearing today my Glashütte Eye of Sauron, after the 3 hurricanes in central Europe I am feeling like this is the end of Middle Earth^^
