Random Comparisons

If anyone hasn't heard, I like watches.

But I REALLY like microbrands.

All too often many wonder about buying a watch, sight unseen/worn, wondering how it wears/compared etc.

Heres where I come in, gonna throw out some comparisons between a few of the microbrands I have, and try to put them next to more well known, tried watches.

Every so often I'll throw up some different selections. Don't expect daily updates, sadly like most here I have three other jobs which take precedence. Namely husband, father, #tactical-life, then watch stuff.

Thanks for the post. Who does the strap with what looks like an ace of spades?

As a certified horologist there is one micro brand I like more than others. No I’m not associated or paid, I just like their offerings. Hoglund and Sons, an American micro brand that gets it, to have the guts to produce their top of the line chronograph with a mechanical Seagull ST1901 movement and price it under $300 is the American way!

Lorier Hydra III…True GMT Diver wow.

They do look really good! For me though I rarely even wear the two Chrono's I have.

TBS, I will add them to my memory for ideas when peeps ask about solid, affordable, US Chrono's! Thanks! 🤘🏻🤙🏻

I’m definitely with you on microbrands. In my collection of 21 watches 14 of them are independent smaller brands, I’m including brands like Christopher Ward here so I hesitate to use the term microbrand. I just find you tend to get more for your money, at least in the price range I generally shop in.

BN0118-55E

Aka the Citizen Promaster Tough "Ray Mears".

Mears had nothing to do with design, just wore the original waaay back when. Newer model I have is Solar, Titanium with hardness coating, 300m monocoque case.

Btw, Citizen recently updated Ray Mears but I'm not sure if I'm on board with the "improvements". They increased the case size from 40 to 41mm and lugs from 20 to 22. Thickness is also increased to 14mm however the WR went down from 300 to 200m… Not sure if I like the new font and handset either. To sum up, BN0118 is still a great watch and one of my favorite beaters 💪
