Benrus DTU-2A/P-SVKH

Yesterday I purchased this reiisue model of Benrus DTU-2A/P. The original model was used by US forces from mid 60’s to late 60’s. The original one had no brand name printed on the dial, and was powered by hand winding movements. This one runs on Swiss Ronda quartz movements. The design is based on the MIL-3818B specifications, which is before the MIL-W-46374 or the “disposable plastic watch”.

I find many “Vietnam War inspired military watch” on the market, but most of the time, they have modern case size of 36mm or 38mm and over. This one has 34mm diameter, 41mm lug to lug, and lug width of 18mm which is faithful to the original size.

After buying Timex Camper 34mm model last week, I began to like wearing small sized watch. They fit my slender wrist well and the balace between wrist width and watch seems perfect.

It is bit dissapointing to find mistype on the box. It should be printed “GENERAL PURPOSE WATCH”.

I much prefer re issues and homages to be the original size. I wish Vertex would do this too.

I'm guessing it is quartz because we've somehow lost the technology to make a mechanical watch that fits in a case meant for comfortable human wear.

It's better to keep the perfect 34mm size than to have an oversized lump because muh sweeping second hand.
