Lorier Falcon vs Traska Summiteer

Hello Watch Crunchers! Hope everyone had a good weekend.

Inspired by the ongoing Micro Tournament, I have been taking a closer look at microbrands. I am a big fan of field and explorer-style watches so naturally the Lorier Falcon and the Traska Summiteer caught my eye.

Both Lorier and Traska are respected microbrands known for good build quality, attractive designs and wonderful customer service. So I wanted to reach out to our community to see which of these two powerhouse Explorer-alternatives you think is better.

If you think there’s an even better Explorer-alternative (perhaps a Smiths or a Nivada Grenchen) please feel free to comment and share your wisdom.

Thank you and I hope everyone has a good week ahead!

Bigest minus for Lorier is the use of plastic crystal.

I'm going to vote with my wallet as soon as there is a restock on the Lorier Falcon. I want the Hesalite over the Traska's sapphire and the dial/hands aesthetic of the Falcon just speak to me more.

The Summiteer is better on the specs being slightly thinner, the sapphire crystal and a quick adjust clasp, but the looks of the Falcon make it the winner. I've lived this long without the quick adjust feature, so it's not a deal breaker for me and the Falcon is $125 cheaper.

Agreed.

I’ve owned the Falcon and it is a great watch but I like the looks of the Summiteer better. You can’t lose with either, it will come down to personal preference. I’ve got a Summiteer in the mail. 😉

That does seem to be a design choice that is quite controversial. Lorier are kind enough to provide polywatch but a piece of sapphire would have been a nice option to have imo.

I’ve been keeping an eye on the Falcon too and am eagerly awaiting for their restock this Spring. I agree the Falcon’s handset looks more unique vs the Traska’s. I’m torn on the waffle dial and choice of silver vs white indices but it is no doubt a looker.

Looking forward to your NWA/WRUW posts in the future!

Hey Elijah,

That’s awesome! The Traska does look really solid, it’s understated. I’m not sure how I feel about the (frankly rather unnecessary) concentric circle but I prefer it’s inky black dial (at least on stock photos) vs the Lorier’s waffle grey-ish dial.

Congrats on your new watch pickup, looking forward to seeing your post when it arrives! 🍻

I don't think there is a better watch, taste is more important. It depends if your style is modern, or retro. Nothing inbetween.

Originally I couldn't stand the Summiteer's sword hand, but it strangely works. Iťs so odd, but it successfully translates the original Rolex mercedes to the 21st century. Plus it has the divided dial. And, of course, the usual Traska case, bracelet and clasp, all hardened. It's a modern Explorer

On the other hand, the Lorier's arrow has a really thick outline, diminishing the lumed area on the hour hand. And that would be my only nitpick. Textured dial, plastic paint, big crown, nice bracelet, lovely domed plexiglass. It's a retro Explorer, from an age before G-shocks.

Falcon > Summitteer for me, but I thought this is mostly an academic discussion, I didn’t know we are waiting for the Falcon restock???? 🫨🫨🫨

I think you had him at “retro” and “G-shocks”, this definitely tips the scales to Lorier 😆

You’re absolutely right, the sword hands grew on me as well. Kind of wish the “broad” sword style was also applied on the minutes hand and not just the hours hand like the Sinn 556.

The hardened steel is definitely a plus especially on an adventure-ready watch like the Summiteer.

Gotta keep you on your toes 👀 haha. Both really solid designs, unclear which one to add to our collection in the future.
