While cleaning out my parents house for a move I came across a box of old stuff that had these in there. Yep. My interest in watches goes back there. Enough to where I clipped out ads from National Geographic and Skin Diver!

Those are pretty cool. I always enjoy looking at vintage advertisements for products that interest me.
I think my interest in Rolex started with the October 1981 issue of National Geographic. Reinhold Messner climbed Everest alone and without oxygen and he had a Rolex on his wrist.
The one with the dolphins is great!
Interesting they did some cave diving copy with the SD and not the EXPII.

That is a good one. One of the few that I have seen that marketed the solid gold model as well.

The Explorer II was never marketed as a dive watch with only 100 m water resistance. I think they were leaning pretty heavily on the COMEX influence from the 70s. Also Bill Stone was pushing the boundaries for deep diving at the time introducing rebreathers and mixed gas diving. Probably informing the choice of the Sea Dweller over the Submariner.
Thank you fot these, love old ads.
Here is an Fratello article with some more.
