Breaking a lance for the Tissot Service (Germany)

Hi guys.

This post may be of interest or it may not. Be that as it may, I want to report on my entirely positive experience with the (German) Tissot Servicecenter.

Backstory: No watch gave me that much headache and (first world) problems as my PRX(s) did.

Yes, PRXs. I’m on my fifth one. Don’t ask for all the reasons but it started with the Quartz when they came out and I worked myself up to the Chrono (that was just too big for me) and back to the Automatic again that you see in the picture.

So, I bought the watch and it had a scratch on the dial that I didn’t see first. Five days after the purchase I went back to the jeweler, they sent it in and after six weeks I got it back.

Nice…

Then I recognized something that really p*ssed me off: the hands weren’t aligned properly (see picture) and there was a tiny metal splinter on the fifth index.

So, in it went again and after another six weeks I got it back again.

I checked the hands upon receiving the watch and they were good. Soon after, though, I noticed a slight drift again. This time in the other direction (first the hour hand was past the hour, this time before).

I was bummed (again) to have to wait another six weeks and I decided to get in touch with Tissot directly. I went to their webpage and ordered a service parcel.

So they sent me a travel case and a pre-paid envelope to send it back to them.

I was ready for a long abstinence again…

Now to my actual point: It took a whole ONE week since I’ve sent it in, they setting the hands anew and me having it back on my wrist. ONE week!

Thanks Tissot!

I don’t know exactly why the jewelers had it on the way for an easy six werks and Tissot was able to set the thing straight within TWO DAYS. The rest of said week was the deliveries back and forth.

You can actually track the service status on their webpage and all it took was two days.

Did you have similar experiences with manufacturers and/or jewelers and service durations?

No, in fact I don't have any service stories. I have never sent in a watch for service. 😉

Misalignment of the watch hands and some form of contamination on the dial are however the two most common problems I've encountered.

P.S.: I have only one PRX and don't intend to buy more.

Same here.

The five PRXs were never there at the same time except for the Chrono and the Automatic. Soon after the Chrono went away.

And yes: I’m never buying another PRX again. Heck I’d even say that I’m absolutely happy with my four-watch-collection as soon as I receive my „final“ piece, the SBGA211, in a couple of days.

And then I’ll just enjoy these pieces for a long, long time.

I'm sorry to hear about your experiences, but truthfully I have never taken such an incredibly intensive macro scouring of the dial to any of my watches.

It may come over as „macro scouring“ but these two flaws (the hands are a different matter) were all too apparent once light hit the dial in just the right way.

From that point forward there was no unseeing them.

That’s fair man, and of course you are well within your rights to demand a brand new product being what it is is purported to be 👍
