Anyone tried designing their own watch(es)?

There are products like SolidWorks, AutoDesk Inventor, and even Adobe Illustrator and other vector-graphics focused illustration programs.

What I'd like to know if anyone has tried designing their own timepieces with any of those (or other) software packages?

How was your experience? I'm considering dabbling in design, just of fun, and would love some tips before starting out. Thanks.

I find those software rather intimidating, so I was wondering if that's what got in your way.
