My 1st DuFrane watch - Whitney Lauren Collaboration #2 of 16

Because I am neither a scuba diver nor a mountaineer or world traveler, I tend to look at watches as art pieces first, with the benefit of telling time and doing other interesting things.

The shape, finish, bracelet, strap, dial, hands, bezel, and movement all represent different aspects of an artisan's eye (or not). While heritage carries the weight of historical significance and perfected engineering, the new continues to forge ahead creating unique impressions in the present. I like living in a world where there is room for appreciation of both.

Food, music, cinema, and the written word can similarly be ascribed to categories that can be considered elevated, common, or somewhere in the middle. The devil is in the details. One of those details is the ambition and motivation behind a specific brand of timepiece. Is it unique? Is it art? Is it innovative? Or is it a cynical cash grab? That is best left to those who ponder such things.

With these thoughts, I bought this DuFrane Whitney Lauren Collaboration. A local artist, deeply inspired by the works of Mark Rothko, she created 16 hand-painted (oil) dials of differing varieties - her vision - with some guidance by DuFrane I'm sure to add different flavors. I grabbed # 2 - which I have dubbed my "Seasons" watch. Each color blend subtly gives way to another creating a mosaic where winter folds into spring, which folds into summer, giving way to fall, and back again. All on a watch with a respectable movement, bezel, and case finish.

There is poetry in some timepieces. Sometimes it's Shakespeare, other times it's Jim Morrison or Aldous Huxley. They sought to express deeper thoughts through the music of language, hoping to ennoble or at least make one think. I like my watches to do the same.

Very interesting dial. Love those colors! 👍

They had one Travis diver in this collection and I wanted it so bad, but couldn’t quite afford it. Hopefully they’ll do more of these. I met Steven of DuFrane at a local meetup. He’s a stand up dude.

I was really eyeballing #4. I have a Travis and it has fantastic fit and finish. Unfortunately, I just bought another watch and good not justify the double hit

The owner has advertised it, showing the clasp. But I don't know if all watches have it. It looks like similar to the San Martin one, possibly source from the same factory?
