Monta…Is the quality really there?

Hi Watchfam! Just curious about the quality of Monta watches?

I love the specs. I love a few of the models. And I hear about how the quality rivals the likes of Rolex.

Is this true?

Their store is online and they don’t offer their try-before-you-buy program anymore so I can‘t try it on and find out for myself. Thanks in advance!

Too many people have praised Monta for there not to be some truth to it.  I've never owned one and likely never will, but hard not to think they deserve the praise they get.

Solid point. This is how I feel too, just want to be a little more sure about it.

As a Monta owner and someone who’s tried (and owns) a lot of watches, a resounding yes. In my view, they are a top tier micro brand and the best bracelet you’ll find on any $3000 or less watch.

They are a good value at retail, but even better on the secondary market, if you can find them. I say this, not flippantly, but honestly feel they rival watches costing much more including my Tudors in terms of build quality. Now, they don’t have the in house movement, but they use reliable Sellitas and ETAs, which many would say it’s a plus and it saves you money.

There are a lot of great micros out there, but they are one I never see in the wild, but the owners who have them love them and recognize the value.

This is exactly what I wanted to know, how it stacks up against a brand like Tudor.

Thank you for weighing in!

Don't get me wrong, Tudor is awesome and has a better movement, but build wise, you cannot go wrong.

As another Monta owner I would second what @AllTheWatches is saying.  At the price point they deserve the reputation that you see online.  They are very impressive for a micro brand.  One thing that for me really stands out about them is the feeling of the brushed finishing on the bracelet.  It almost feels soft or silky.  I've only ever experienced one other watch with a similar feeling bracelet and the was a GP Laureato.  As for vs Tudor,  Tudor has a leg up on the movement and also what I would say is the fine detail on the dial, but Monta is no slouch and their bracelet is by far better.  The clasp could use a bit more refinement, but again at the price point I've not seen anyone better.

Awesome watch. That was the one I was hoping to get, but ended up with the gilt dial version instead. Absolutely stunner of a watch.

Have one on my buy list for 2023-24. Will let you know

Yes, it's there!  I was curious as well and had my eye on the Triumph for some time.  But was hesitant to purchase sight unseen.  On a road trip to visit family last summer I made an appointment to visit the company headquarters in St Louis while driving through.  Visited with the company president, Justin, for an hour, talking watches and reviewing the whole range.  Left with the silver dial Triumph on my wrist, but there were no bad choices really.  They make a great watch.   Excellent build quality, adjusted movements to +/-5 spd - mine runs -1.8 spd over the past year- and hands down the most comfortable bracelet you can get at this, or several higher price points...with an adjustable clasp to boot.  Ordered the limited edition turquoise blue dial Noble for my wife earlier this year.  It's her daily, and running at +1.0 spd over the past few months.

A few months ago they introduced a new, shorter/more curved clasp - I purchased one for my Triumph because the clasp was my one serious critique of the watch.  The new clasp is noticeably shorter than the previous version, with a more pronounced curve, so it doesn't "stick out" like the older version.  All new Montas ship with it now.  You should go back and check them out.

Monta's instragram page has several pics of the old and new:

The clasp length is the same, but the curve to the swing arm and clasp shortens it on the wrist so it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb on smaller wrists.

don't bother!  Here's the text of the post and the pics:

How do you make a great bracelet even better? LISTEN. Just as we have for the last 7+ years.
We increased the curve of the folding pieces thereby shortening the overall length. The flip lock now catches on one mechanism for a more stable connection. And we even updated the end links for a tighter case connection thereby removing any gaps between the end link and the first bracelet link. The result is an even better wearing experience and the comfort of knowing MONTA will ALWAYS listen. 😎🙌
This bracelet is shipping on all models starting today.
