Robert Downey Jr. - Fake Omega Speedmaster?

I know we have all seen RDJs watch collection but I am not sure what the verdict is on this Speedy?

Is it a prop watch? What movie?

As a Speedmaster owner and enthusiast I can't help but to feel like this is off. The Omega symbol is very close to the text, the Speedmaster feels too cartoonish and the professional looks like it is in undercase.

Fake - the lower case p on the dial for professional gives it away

Could be a movie prop that he was allowed to keep. These things do happen, and it’d be a nice souvenir.

Do you think it is just the dial or is the whole thing rubbish?

The case and bezel and crown look correct, idk about the lower pusher and obviously an aftermarket strap.

He didn't indicate if it was a gift, prop or bought. Idk what movie or show it is from. Maybe they cut that out of the video.

Regardless, it will go for plenty at Christie's one day 😜

I know actors are sometimes allowed to keep some props. I recently heard that Tim Robbins had a custom wig made for him to wear in the movie High Fidelity, as part of taking the role he got to keep the wig.

Solid reference 👌 So do you think it was a prop or a bad gift?

That is why I don't want watches from friends and family and will only buy from trusted dealers if I am buying for others. If I get duped myself, so be it

Whole thing. Makes no sense to just do the dial

I don't know about the speedy, but I do know that Robert Downey Jnr is a pretty cool guy. I interviewed him for a UK newspaper in 2005. He insisted on doing it on the roof of the LA music studio we met at - because he had to have the option to smoke. He held a cigarette in his hand the whole hour, waved it around a lot, but never lit it. There was no table on the roof so nowhere for me to place my digital recorder - so he held it himself and spoke into it, which amused him. He was wry, edgy and straightforward - no big ego there. I'm glad for his great successes since then. He was certainly one of the interview subjects I most enjoyed meeting in my former career as a full time journalist.

Wow good eye catch! But the man has an impressive collection and toss it like it’s nothing. In one of his watch reviews.
