So happy this saying is back! (watch related) Thanks Pop!

When I was growing up this was the only phrase or occasion my father ever used fowl language. His favorite slang phrase and to this day at the top of my list. Depending on the situation this could be a good thing or a bad thing. I’ll give examples of each.

“Hey pop how do I learn to swim?” “Well son, get your brother, head down to the river, then f**k around and find out.” This was a good occasion.

“Hey pop is it ok for me to take your explorer if I notice you’re not wearing it?” “F**k around and find out son.” This would be a not good occasion.

Anyone have a favorite “pop-ism” a classic or an oldie but a goodie?

I honestly can’t think of a single instance of ever having heard my Pops swear. 😆

You win! 😁

Do it nice so you don't have to do it twice

I think context matters. Nowadays, F around and find out is an extension of Come at me Bro

My dad used to tell me this when he thought I was being stupid. "Be careful with the decisions you make today because they will affect you for the ready of your life" I never got a explanation for what it meant. But after I made some stupid choices I got it. You'd think I would've learned? I heard it a lot.

This is where context matters. Dad's can say stuff like this til they are blue in the face, but until the kid makes a poor choice, they don't know what any of that means.

Best advice I ever heard re: raising kids is let them make choices in the low stakes environment of childhood and learn that their choices have consequences; both positive & negative.

Asked Pa about the "birds and the bees" when I was 12ish....

His reply was " bugger the bees, it's the birds you want"

🤣🤣🤣

I’m gonna remember that one, that was good.

My dad is not a big life leson preaching guy, but he gladly told me details of his fights in his younger years whenever I asked. Learned a lot of tips and tricks from him in that regard.😄

"Never mistake movement for progress"

My dad was strangely uncommunicative but demonstrated by his actions, he did lecture about keeping items as original as possible: OEM but he was referring to more than the links on his 60s Rolex manual date OP, which he wore without needing to adjust from the factory. He just felt replacement parts for anything was not as good as the items from the same manufacture. I guess that is why both my brother and I like to tinker with mechanical things.

That's the truth. I made plenty of stupid decisions. I still do. My biggest one lately is I keep buying watches. 😂

You must have been incredibly well behaved or he was incredibly patient 🙂 Sounds like a fantastic Pop!
